Hear ye, hear ye! A royal birth proclamantion: our naked mole rat queen gave birth to pups on Feb. 24! The pups are doing well and the colony is taking good care of them. You can meet our new additions in Curious Creatures!
 
Covid-19 Update

Yes, the Akron Zoo is open and we're taking precautions.

The safety of the Akron Zoo staff, volunteers, guests and community is a top priority and precautions are being taken. We will remain open for regular business daily. All guests visiting the Akron Zoo are recommended to take preventative action when visiting the park including self-monitoring and social distancing.

The Conservation Carousel and indoor facilities - the bat and lemur buildings and Komodo Kingdom - will be closed. However, since the Akron Zoo is a park, all outdoor areas will remain open consistent with the directive from Gov. DeWine. The Akron Zoo is closely monitoring the developments of the coronavirus situation closely. We are following updates from the CDC, Summit County Public Health and Ohio Department of Public Health.

While the zoo will be open for regular business, the St. Patrick's Day Celebration, scheduled for March 14, has been canceled.

At the Akron Zoo, we are taking a proactive approach to help slow the spread of coronavirus:
  • We have increased the frequency and number of surfaces that are being cleaned regularly.
  • We continue to increase employee and guest opportunities for hand washing and sanitizing across outdoor locations.
  • We have added disposable towels to bathrooms for hand drying, which is recommended by the CDC.
  • For employees, we have suspended all non-essential staff travel and are encouraging staff to stay home if they are feeling ill.
This operational plan will remain in place through March 31 and will be reevaluated at that time. Thank you for supporting The Akron Zoo. We will continue to provide updates for the health and safety of our employees and guests.
 
On April 9th, some Silver fulu fishes were born. Also, a female red Wolf named Juno arrived from Chehaw Wild Animal Park. She is getting along with the male very good according to the zoo.

It is on a hill. The hill has caused issues. It is also landlocked by zoo on three sides. Plus Wild Asia is being built along with the now opened Pride of Africa. I could see an expansion to the north someday like the proposed second phase for Pride of Africa.
