If I'm remembering correctly the touch table was closed in July. I could be thinking of something else though.

It has been closed for a year or two. It has been displaying discarded exoskeletons and related stuff. It is a bit of an eyesore. It needs to be removed and a different style exhibit replace it. Especially if Curious Creatures is staying around for a while longer.

Is that what that is? I found it very odd and out of place, especially with no labels.

I was a touch tank in a different location during Jellies and Journey to the Reef. It was relocated to its current location for Curious Creatures. The lid was added. Batfish and horseshoe crabs lived it while it was still in use as an exhibit. They hid a lot. That ended a couple years ago. I wish they would remove it and put in something new.

If I had to guess it'll probably be removed when Curious Creature gets renovated in the future

Do you have any idea what species will be in the Africa expansion besides giraffe?

I have read meerkat mentioned once. I have heard maybe a primate species, but not recently. Design should begin by the beginning of next year. I think availability will be a factor. I do know small mammals were mentioned for some of the extra area.

As I have previously mentioned, the Africa expansion will be up to 14 acres including behind the scenes. I just saw on a job posting from last year that the mixed-species giraffe habitat will be 5 acres.
For anyone who needs a reference, Cleveland's Elephant exhibit is roughly 5 acres as well. Very impressive that Akron would build something that large.

Spent about 2 hours at Akron. Here's what's new:

- Waterfowl in Legends of the Wild was off exhibit
- Padar was the Komodo on display
- Lower tiger exhibit was closed for repairs.
- Second tiger is still in quarantine according to employee
- Electric Eel exhibit empty
- Baron's Racer now lives in the former Green Tree Python exhibit in Curious Creatures
- An unidentified bird now lives in the seasonal exhibit in Legend of the Wild (See photo below. Best I could get bc the sun was right behind the exhibit
-Snow Leopard were off exhibit
- A wild Grinch (Meanus Oneus) was roaming the zoo today.

Looks like another tragopan.

It is probably a Cabot’s tragopan. That was a species they were looking into since the Temminck’s has their own habitat now in Zoo Gardens.

The bird in the photo is a Temminck's Tragopan - Cabot's have larger spots and a somewhat different pattern.

@TigerValley98 Last time you were at Akron, was the Lion Tamarin out across from the Komodo? They weren't out when I went in July or today. I know they're on the older side so I wonder if they passed

They are there, but I have hardly ever seen this pair. They are not as social as Rio and Ana. I think they hang out in the back area.

I didn't see any tamarins or birds in that exhibit on my visit in November.
