Akron Zoo Akron Zoo News 2024

From the zoo's Facebook-

We're looking into the possibility of changing our Curious Creatures area into something new in years to come. We'd like your input of what you would like to see in this area in the future.

If interested in providing feedback, please fill out the survey, which should take about 10-15 minutes to complete: Microsoft Forms.

The survey will be open through Nov. 12.
Personally, I like the Tropical Theme and the Venom Theme the most.

Went to Akron today for one last zoo visit for the year.
  • The preserved body of Contessa, one of the zoo's two original Komodo Dragons, is now on display in Komodo Kingdom. Longtime visitors may remember seeing her.
  • Saw Padar the larger Komodo Dragon
  • Got to see Tai Lung, the elderly Snow Leopard. He's become rare to see outside due to his age and Milja being outside more.
  • Cinerous Vulture was off exhibit. Every other species of bird was out
  • Talked to an employee about the survey for changes to Curious Creatures. They said as far as they know CC will remain for 2025.
  • There are two new terrariums at the end of Curious Creatures, next to the Barron Racer. I can’t remember what was in them and forgot to take a picture.

I believe the zoo is in the process of switching cinereous vultures. Milja should be moving soon. A Legends refresh is coming in 2025. The zoo has been hinting at it. News to come soon. I would not be surprised if the Curious Creatures renovations opens in 2027 between the hospital and the giraffe conservation center. The last I heard the bird habitat for Wild Asia would be built in 2025 too.

There have been terrariums in that location since 2018.

Yes, both Milja the SL and Milan the Jaguar have been confirmed to have left the zoo. Tai Lung is still at the zoo, as I saw him today, so I'm wondering if he'll have a retirement condo like Muffin the Sun Bear did during construction.

I know new snow leopards are probably coming at some point. Probably young ones. A new species could be coming to the zoo. The zoo has joined a new SSP related to that area of the zoo. I am not able to say more at this time.

Plus the new hospital in 2026.

Milja, the 0.1 Snow Leopard will be moving to a new zoo on Nov. 3rd. Snow Leopard habitat changes will happen next year.

Goodbyes are never easy. Our female snow leopard, Milja, will be moving to a new home soon. Visit the Akron Zoo on odd days* by Nov. 3 to say your goodbyes.

Do you know what zoo she went to?
