Alan Rabinowitz dies

I wasn't aware of him before now but I've been familiar with Panthera as well as the Mexico-to-Argentina jaguar corridor - knowing now he was responsible for both of these makes it clear to me what an impact he had and how much his successors in conservation have to live up to.

Wish I had known of him while he was alive. Cancer should never have taken him.

Wow this is a loss. I think I read all of his books and all but the last one were intensely personal and a pure joy to read. It made you feel like you were a friend of his - a far cry from the dry scientific tone of some natural history books. (Sadly the last book on the jaguar corridor was much more dry and lacked the personal touch and anecdotes, I am not sure why). Anyway as the article says he was a giant in the field and will be missed.
