Granted..its over 10 years since I was at Alexandria Zoo but it struck me as an excellent small zoo in a country that doesn`t do "small " zoos all that well really. Obviously I`m not privy to the accreditation process - but to call some of the places that HAVE achieved accreditation "world class" is rather to exaggerate and inflate AZA`s opinion of itself.
And just to add more to the above..I notice that AZA accredited Emirates Park Zoo in Abu Dhabi last year.Whilst half of that zoo is fine ,the other 50% is below standard (to be kind)...did AZA actually GO there I wonder ?
On June 15th, the zoo announced they moved their American white pelicans, glossy ibises, roseate spoonbills, white ibises, and white-faced ibises to exhibits near the Palm Cafe due to exhibit renovations.

On September 10th, the zoo announced they acquired a female (0.1) white-tailed deer from Louisiana Department of Fish & Wildlife after it was confiscated from a private owner.
6.7K views · 202 reactions | We briefly interrupt our jaguar cub daily highlight for you to “fawn” over another new spotted resident. This young white-tailed deer had a tough start, but has a hopeful future at Alexandria Zoo.This fawn was illegally taken from the wild and raised in a home as a pet. She was confiscated and brought to us by our partners at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Our dedicated health care team treated her for several serious medical issues, and thanks to our team's dedicated care, she is now healing beautifully! Her story is a powerful reminder that wild animals are not pets. Generally, wild animals are better off left where they are found. If you believe you have encountered injured or orphaned wildlife, contact a biologist at their nearest LDWF Regional Office or contact an LDWF licensed wildlife rehabilitator. #AlexandriaZoo #AnimalRescue #LouisianaWildlife #ConservationEducation #AlexandriaLA #AlexandriaZooFawn | Alexandria Zoological Park
