I was also disappointed with deaths of the Jackals and in particular with the number of deaths generally. The number of single animals and empty overgrown enclosures was also a concern

The collection was ageing. The majority of those animals that had passed away, were old animals. Sadly collections will go through these stages. If your collection has a lot of older animals, it stands the reason that you will have a stage of losses.

The issues with enclosures, was for a long time, they were planning to move the zoo to a new site. Therefore, enclosures were not worked on, as plans were a foot for a new facility. Sadly, objections by the council and a lot of issues, has meant this plan is currently not going ahead, and has now led to a revamp of a lot of enclosures within the zoo, and new species acquired. There was very few empty exhibits yesterday, so not sure what was empty when you last attended, but that has certainly now changed.

The empty enclosures three weeks ago
3 vivs
2 aviaries behind the large building ,near to the Arctic Fox,both overgrown
3 empty enclosures by the Black Tailed Prairie Dogs,overgrown
2 empty enclosures by the Dwarf Mongoose

Empty aviaries by the Kookaburras, to be fair, waiting for a rebuild.
One empty, overgrown and needing rebuild, opposite the Dik-Dik
One empty enclosure opposite the South American themed area , overgrown.
These are just from memory.

Two female beavers have passed away, but a male beaver has come in from Holland and they now have 1.1

One of the male Fennec Foxes died, leaving 1.0 called Pascal

Tree Shrews are in a new exhibit

Sadly, the last remaining Forest Jackal has passed away, but the enclosure now holds 3 male Bush Dogs, who have arrived from Holland.

The Dwarf Mongoose have also had a baby recently, mother was seen carrying it around in it's mouth.

The exhibit next to the Dwarf Mongoose is being revamped to make for a new home for the Fennec Fox.

The zoo hopes to bring in a breeding female Fennec Fox. They would also like to bring in female companions for Twiglet, the Dik-Dik, as they don't wish to breed this species.

I went today and Milo and Mitzy, the Dwarf Mongooses, had another baby at the end of November. Very lively, curious little thing. :)
 
The park has announced that due to a power cut it has been shut all day. They are advising that they have no information when the power will be back on, so anyone thinking of visiting should contact them first.
