Auckland Zoo Alligator Alley

Hello to all, I was Auckland Zoo on the weekend and an area between the Band Rotunda and the Orangs enclosures was closed for re-development with the above name...

Anyone know of the details of this..?

I was under the impression the next development was Te Wao Nui...

P.S. the main cafe was closed for re-development too...

Some areas and animals need to be moved and altered prior to Te Wao Nui - Doris is one of the lucky few who gets a new home. The new alligator exhibit will eventually link with the existing rainforest via a tamarin exhibit to be built in 2010.

Darwin's Cafe to reopen Monday 21st.

Will the Tamarin exhibit be in the area across from the Lemurs, between them and the reptile area..?

What will take the Tamarin's place in the Rainforest and across from the meerkats..?

The full tamarin exhibit will replace the reptile area and should include more species in the future.

Don't know about answers to your other question, the tamarin area opposite meerkats was originally earmarked for Te Wao Nui development.

will doris be getting company? to build her a big new exibit is great just wondering if that means she will finally have a friend or at least another alli neigbour.

Yep, that's my understanding. Not sure about any breeding plans (doubtful I would have thought).

Auckland don't have any plans to breed alligators and i suspect the two females will be from Mogo Zoo.

:)

that was my understanding though I don't have the report to hand to confirm that for certain.
