Alpine Zoo Innsbruck Alpenzoo news

The latest edition of Zooquaria includes information about the Bavarian pine voles. The three births at Alpenzoo had seven offspring; it is now thought that the zoo has around 10% of the global population of these voles.

While currently kept off-show, they will be kept on display in the new 'Untertierisch' enclosure - the article says this will happen 'later in the year'.

Information about the births and the pine voles in general can be seen on pages 6-7 in the link below:

Recently the last female Eurasian nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes caryocatactes) was send to Zoo Dresden to be paired with a male. According to ZTL Dresden has Spotted nutcrackers (Nucifraga caryocatactes). So I persume that Dresden now has this subspecies and the no subspecies nutcracker.
Alpenzoo Innsbruck was the first zoo to breed this (sub)species in 1986.
