Altina Wildlife Park Altina Wildlife Park news 2010-2014

To start off the year:

0.0.2 scimitar horned oryx born
0.2 maned wolves named 'Chiquita' and 'Mirari'

plus more fallow deer, blackbuck, hog deer and water buffalo.

I was told white male over tawny females to breed some new blood into the whites.

That was over 2 years ago, so that may not be what they ended up doing.

I just booked an Altina tour for tomorrow.

Due to all the inspections and paperwork they don't expect the lions for another 2 months.

Hopefully I will have some more photos to upload soon.

There are a lot more Hog deer and Eland than last time I was there. The African Wild Dog, Hyena and Mained Wolf exhibits are all very large with several pens. The Lion exhibit looks good to, just waiting for the lions.

The Scimitar Horned Oryx look good and have a large treed enclosure. The Addax also look very settled.

The Crocodile and Alligator house looks good, with on Salt water Crocodile, 2 freshwater crocs and 2 alligators.

The only thing I dont like is being unable to leave the carts during the tour to take photos. I can see why though with the carnivores only having the one fence, and the possibility of children or the stupid putting their fingers through the fence and having them bitten off. Maybe they need to offer a slower tour with more opportunities to get off for those of us who want more time, but I am sure most people like the speed it is.

I think it was a mistake to go on a long weekend as there was more people booked than would fit on the horse carts. They had a 3 rd cart behind a ute and all were full making over 40 people on the tour.
