The last brown bear from Dierenpark Amersfoort, Kokkie, has been euthanized. Kokkie had long suffered from old-age conditions, such as osteoarthritis. Dierenpark Amersfoort will look at what they will do to the famous 'Berenrots' of the Zoo. Due to the current corona situation, these developments may take a little longer, but in the future the 'Berenrots' will probably be inhabited again by other bear inhabitants.

Some old news that I haven't seen mentioned yet - Brush-tailed porcupines no longer held in Nocturnal house. Cassowaries are also no longer held in the park (Despite still being present on the map)

A new enclosure has been added near the entrance to the park: The prairie, a large prairie dog walkthrough

More recent news: Dierenpark Amersfoort set to re-open soon, but the Nocturnal house and Lemur walkthrough will be closed, sadly

it's a real shame since these are the most fun parts of the zoo (in my opinion)

100.000 animal house and Snavelrijk will remain open

I don't know if the boat ride is still open, but I'll update you on that when I go there in a few weeks

The pair of Southern screamers (Chauna torquata) have laid a total of 6 eggs, they are expected to hatch in around 30 days.

This morning, the three-year-old elephant Thabo was put to sleep in Dierenpark Amersfoort after he was diagnosed with the herpes virus (EEHV). The elephant bull could no longer recover from this very dangerous virus.

Yesterday, Thabo's condition deteriorated rapidly and a blood test revealed that the elephant was carrying the herpes virus. The zookeepers, vet and other specialists have done everything to save Thabo. After it turned out that Thabo would die, the park put him to sleep with an eye on animal welfare. The elephants have been able to say goodbye to Thabo.
 
Six Titicaca Water Frogs have hatched!

Six very rare titicaca frogs have been hatched from their eggs. This endangered species is found in the wild at Lake Titica in South America. There, the living conditions for the frog species have not been good for years, which made the animal almost extinct in the wild. In 2017 a number of frog fish were rescued from the lake. It is the first time our park has raised this species, it is therefore extra special that these frogs were born!

The zoo has revealed that 2 Spectacled Bears (Tremarctos ornatus) are going to live in the former brown bear enclosure! This would make dierenpark Amersfoort the only zoo in The Netherlands with this species! The 3-year old brothers Teju and Ariba will come from a zoo in Germany. Currently the enclosure is being renovated and expected to open in the begining of Summer this year. I persume that they come from Duisburg, but I am not 100% sure, could someone confirm this?

They say that the enclosure will get some big renovations, I wonder what it's going to look like!

So do I, probably they will add a lot of climbing structures. So I am wondering whether they are going to keep the elevated walkway thing in the enclosure.
