- arrival of a 12 years old male californian sealion, called Gonzo, coming from Cologne Zoo,
- birth of two barbary sheeps,
- departure of Fuyu, a female white tiger born last year, to a zoo in Italy, near Bergam.

Hello Antoine !
There are a few small mistakes, even if they don't change the conclusion much :)
- the fir trees in the centre behind the basin have been accessible for several years. Both bears were old and did not damage vegetation. For young bears, will be different ...
- the second enclosure was open to bears until their death (2018 and 2021). It had been converted into a crane aviary but not for a few years. In 2018 it was already like this ...
Binturongs live now in the second enclosure of tigers (between white tigers and siberian tiger, near snow leopard). Raccons live instead of the binturongs near zoo exit.

@Gavial Thank you for the details and my appologies for the mistakes !
Regarding the polar bears, I saw the aviary (and the electric fences too) ten years ago and was not aware of the return of the bears in. Doesn't matter as it is too small even to separate animals.
For the trees in the main exhibit you scare me : do you mean the zoo want to welcome new young polar bears ? I can't imagine they will do so especially if they put back the electric fences.
I hope they will have the intelligence to turn this exhibit into something for smaller species or to enlarge exhibits in the same area.
 
Oh no no, for now, no sign of polar bears returning ! Outside EAZA, this is unlikely.
That said, for an specimen "EEP surplus" , it seems to me not paradise, but not so bad ... It is true that in France, the latest standards for this species are high level ! But Mulhouse, La Flèche and Antibes, it's not so much better unfortunately.
 
@Gavial Mulhouse and la Flèche not so much better ? Well, these two have two real enclosures where the animals can live, contrary to Amneville. Moreover, la Flèche will have a maternity den. So, for me, nothing to compare with Amneville. Of course, these facilities are far from Cerza and Reynou.
 
Of course it's better, but these exhibits are very recent and should have been thought differently ! Far too small, especially Mulhouse, less than 2000m² cut in two, with rectangular pools ... You who do not like electrical wires (like me), at La Flèche you have for your account :D. Surrounded by lodges day and night...

The polar bear exhibit in Amnéville dates from 1999, at that time La Plamyre displayed its polar bears on tiling and azure pool without shame on all the signs of the region :eek:. But you're right, the Amneville's exhibit is not optimal for breeding. For young individuals awaiting placement, that seems acceptable to me.

That is just my opinion. I don't compare to the worst, but I still find some good points at this exhibit ;).
 
@Gavial The electric fence in la Flèche has been put down since the construction of the new enclosure and house. Of course, the other exhibit still have their own :confused:

Births :
- 0,0,4 red river hogs in June,
- 0,0,8 artic wolves in April/May.

Arrival of 2.0 northern lynx (2 and 3 years old) from Mervent.

New for 2021 :
- a new walkthrough aviary has been created for monk parakeets. It's just opened for educational activities.
- there is a new footbridge to see the giraffes in the african plain.
- opening of a new 1.000 m² playground.
- replacement of Tiger World by a hologram show (a first european ever according to the zoo) but you have to pay 5 euros in addition to your entry ticket :rolleyes:.
 
2.0 northern lynx from Mervent were originally called Onyx and Kali.
They were born at La Haute-Touche.
Their names changed at Amneville to Skoll and Flocky.
But we don't know which is which...

Some good and bad news for the african lions in Amnéville :
- august 22nd, female Isis gave birth to 2 lion cubs,
- october 12th, 17 years old male Hélios died of olderness. He was the father of the 2 cubs.
