Colchester Zoo Amur tiger's

Had a keeper shadowing exp with them today. She will be moving at some point, when a suitable home and a new female for Igor have been found

Anoushka was born at Linton zoo in 2004. Why is she not aloud to breed when her Parents were. Her parents had more than 2 litters (including the one she was from, and there late sister Anastasia) and no one mentioned one of her parents was a hybrid. How come when Anoushka suddenly couldn't look after her cubs, they say she can't breed?:confused::confused:

She didn't look after her litter of cubs, as she was a first time mum, which is normal in big cats. She was stopped from breeding again as she was proven to be a hybrid, from her sire (Murko) who has Sumatran genes in his genetics, hence her sterilisation, and her brother at W.H.F

The Pair at Linton Zoo had three litters born to Deja (Leningrad Zoo) and Mirko (Hamburg Zoo)
2003: Anastasia
2004: Uri,Czar and Anoushka
2006: Katinka and Makari

But due to reasons that given this a normal situation the pair had bred enough, so that where put to retirement, And also with the hybrid situation this has stopped further breeding aswell as the breeding of the cubs has apparently been suspended, However i do not know whether Uri and Czar have sired any cubs or not in the European Zoos they were sent to after their time at Colchester.

Unfortunately earlier this year Deja was put to sleep due to horrendous Arthritus, And as far as I know the plan is to run Mirko and Katinka together for company and that Katinka has not been planned for breeding or to be sent to any other collections.

This was a complete cock up from the EEP coordinator and the zoos were simply done as they were told, only to be found out when the cubs were born, But one of the most upsetting things is that Deja is a descendent of a recently wild caught Amur Individual, so her genes were really valuable only to be ruined by this mistake.

As far as im concerned we should make use of the tigers we have, otherwise we'll soon run out.
