Animal Bucket List

I will restrict my list to animals I might be able to see* in the wild with a fair chance of success and without going around the world three times. In order of decreasing size (which may also be the order of the number of ZooChat members who have seen them in the wild - I would be surprised if anyone here has seen the final two).

Humpback whale
Kirk's red colobus
New Caledonian crow (with a chance of ticking kagu at the same time)
Mexican worm lizard (Bipes biporus)
Lowe's pen-tailed tree shrew

* in my book, seeing something means photographing it too ;)

My top 5 species I want to see one day varies almost on a weekly basis :p but currently it is probably something like this:

Numbat
Marbled Cat
Kakapo
Long-beaked Echidna
Iberian Lynx

I'm pretty sure I'll never get to see all 5 of the above - but I live in hope I might see a few :)

Same here. As I read these, I keep finding ones that I forgot to add to my list. Everything you said I really want to see as well.

By all accounts, the Isle of Man is also good for spotting Leatherback Turtles - I didn't mention it purely because I was citing the two locations I (in the case of Arran) and my girlfriend (in the case of Anglesey) have had the most luck in spotting these species.

Wait!! You're a member of ZooChat and you have a girlfriend!! Now those are just to things that don't go together.:D

Honestly, I could pretty much add the entire world's species because I want to see as much as I can!!:D

No kidding! There's no point trying to post which ones I want to see most, at least for me, there isn't. I'd like to see them all!

But, I will say this - I've been dying to see a takin. :p

The Roger Williams Park Zoo now has Sichuan Takin. I'd have them on my list but they went on exhibit a day or two before my visit so that was quite a surprise as I didn't expect them to be out, yet. I do want to see a Bhutan Takin, though.

Some of those are very doable: Perth Zoo for Numbat, Moscow or Sydney Zoo for Long-beaked Echidna, Kakapo were available to see in Zealandia, New Zealand (Don't know if they currently are), Marbled Cat's pop up in South-East Asian zoos from time to time. And Iberian Lynx maybe eventually some of the captive ones in Spanish zoos will be "on show" otherwise you'd have to really luck out and see one in the wild.

All in all it sounds like a trip to New Zealand/Australia is in your future! You could see 3 out of the 5 in one trip!

Every species of:

Lygodactylus
Phelsuma
Gonatode
Spearodactylus

and.... Hamlyn's Monkey. (The pacarana was right behind Hamlyn's monkey)

I'd like to see a Binturong. The only zoo I've been to that has one is the Roger Williams Park Zoo but it was off-exhibit.

Well, I've seen skunks, Hamlyn's monkeys and binturongs.... so there :p

Doesn't London have one of the bushmaster species? And for the rest Gharial, Sunfish, Chinese Giant Salamander, Hellbender and Olm are species easily ticked-off by a European roadtrip.

I want to do a European trip desperately, but due to family issues then any holidays are having to be put back [we could get away with a weekend trip possibly].

That's a shocker!

I did consider putting it in the top five, but I like to surprise people :D. In seriousness, as much as I would like to see one, it is just like a small Indian rhino and I wanted to choose things unlike things I'd seen before.

He's not the only one, I have a girlfriend to, and she's a poster on here :)

I want to see everything I can from the Galapagos Islands. I've only seen Galap Tortoises.

Oh man. Went to the Galapagos Islands this past February. Was otherworldly! Also spent a few extra days at the end of the trip going to Zoos in Columbia and Peru ;)
