Animal Escapes

Is it just me, or is this starting to happen a little bit more often now?
I think the pervasive international media coverage and over-active social media might rather be blamed for bringing even minor national animal outbreaks to international attention; just see how quickly the bear outbreak in an obscure German private zoo was covered.

Sunny the red panda escaped from Virginia Zoo in Norfolk in January 2017 and still hasn't been found :( In 2007 another red panda, Yin, escaped from there twice in one month. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38749925

Rusty the red panda escaped from the National Zoo a few years ago, he was found later that day. UPDATE: Red Panda Found After It Escaped from Its Enclosure | At the Smithsonian | Smithsonian

And of course the cobra "escape" from Bronx Zoo! Even if he was eventually found nearby :)

Agreed... if anything goes wrong at Seaworld, even if not their fault, you will promptly hear about it... If you read books by zookeepers, escapes do seem somewhat common; though many of the animals never really get that far before recapture (or being killed in the case of large carnivores)... Many of the escapes to seem to be the result of a keeper making a mistake, or the public doing something stupid... not necessarily the result of the animal figuring out to to escape, although apes especially are good at that.

Something wrong with the driver there to hit first the man and then the young kangaroo deliberately. Though "three-foot fence" and "kangaroo" aren't a good match...
Kangaroos are popular pets and exhibit animals here in Wisconsin; escapes are actually surprisingly common and in recent years we have had roughly one kangaroo sighted each year.
