Yorkshire Wildlife Park Animal List

The third digit is unknowns.

The lechwe number is off ISIS. There where 2 births last year. Have there been anymore this year.

I'm very surprised there were only 2, there was one the first weekend they opened and I definitely remember at least one other but I'd have thought there were more than that. Someone made a comment about ending up with the African Plains full of them!

I'm hoping to go this weekend so I'll try to find out stuff.

Is the outdoor lion enclosure complete yet? If not hows is it coming along? I want to know how my moneys being spent!:D

It's not finished but definitely making good progress, late May is the estimate for completion. It looks really good, there will be 3 separate enclosures for the 3 groups. I'll try & get some up-to-date pics at the weekend.

Come to think of it I'm pretty sure there is only one adult male. I'll see what I can do but last time they were spread about and ALL the other species came quite close but they were as far away as possible. I'll try to at least count them.

OK I did my duty (well partially I now realise) - 17 lechwe, they lost a female over the winter. I'm sure there's only one adult male.

We counted 10 guanaco.

Lions country photos to follow.

Thankyou orangeperson. Although I can't seem to edit my list anymore. Is there a maximum amount of editing you can do?

Progress of the lions enclosures

And a not very good photo illustrating the different species (Anakole, Addax, Zebra, Ostrich, Lechwe) mingling on the African Plains. The male addax was still chasing the male lechwe but the addax are moving & they're hopefully getting nyala.

Agoutis, Sitatunga and American flamingo can now be added to the list. Soon capybara also! What a good christmas they are having!:D

Does anyone know what reptiles are kept for the parks meet the animals show?

I know they have a royal python and a blue-tounged skink.

I think there's a corn snake and the bearded dragon still although I don't go to the talk usually.

If you are still trying to keep the numbers there are now only 4 ringtails 2 of each.

I think there must now be 7 camels although I only saw 6 today, unless one has left.

2 male zebra only.

9 meerkat

B&W ruffed lemurs 2.1

I think the capybara and mara are already there making the mara on your original list a reality!

Have they sent ringtails away? Are the current four in a breeding position to boost the numbers again?

Yes, the four that came from Monkey World started bullying one of the other females and for a while they separated her, however eventually the MW4 and the other 4 formed 2 warring groups! They went to Hampstead or Golders Green or somewhere in north London!

They now have the female who gave birth last year and her original companion, the father and the son so hopefully at least one of them will breed again.

We were fairly sure we counted five in the house.

Couldn't see the raccoon dogs the first time around but they appeared later.

Actually I think they may have been five mongooses but one ran in straight away so I forgot it
Yes both raccoon dogs were there-i had a minor panic when I only saw one but the other soon came out of his shed
