The San Francisco Zoo is not only free with telling you their charge's names, but regularly sell the naming rights to the highest bidder. So, it's only a matter of time before some poor bastard is named Facebook, Google, or Twitter. Lately though, there's been an agonizing trend of naming them after the local sporting teams. It's even more irritating when the animal arrives with a perfectly suitable name, then has it changed to be more... well, "local."

For example, when the hippo formerly known as Tucker arrived from Topeka Zoo, he was rechristened "Brian Wilson" in honor of the San Francisco Giants pitcher. The black rhino we received from San Diego was renamed "Boone" after 49er's offensive lineman Alex Boone.

And while she may have been homegrown, the baby francois langur was named "Romo" after another Giants pitcher. It's just too damn bad the langur was a girl...

So...
