San Diego Zoo Animal News

I just got an email from the SDZ (Zoo Chatter) announcing the birth of four (2.2) New Guinea singing dogs.

"What's cuter than a New Guinea singing dog puppy? How about four! Mom Samber and dad Marlin are the proud parents of two girls and two boys-Tari, Jaya, Kota, and Huli. Come see the pups romp and tussle in their exhibit in Cat Canyon. They are on exhibit daily until Mom decides it's time to bring them back into the den."

When we were in San Diego Zoo,we saw the puppys. The mom was trying to persuade them back inside but the wanted to play

Giant Panda Loan extended

This week's e-newsletter (Zoo Chatter) announces the extension of the giant panda loan from China!

Everyone's favorite black-and-white bear will be here at the San Diego Zoo for at least the next five years! Representatives of the China Wildlife Conservation Association will be at the Zoo December 18 for a special ceremony commemorating the signing of a new panda loan agreement. The historic event begins at 11 a.m. near the Zoo's Giant Panda Research Station, and you're welcome to attend!

Blackduiker

The zoo has posted two videos on their website. One is of the new elephant born at the SDWAP and the second one is of the two sun bears on exhibit for the first time.

San Diego Zoo Video

Just caught those cute Sun Bear cubs on our local KTLA Morning News a few hours ago. Have to get back down there soon. Hope to get some back here in L.A. again someday.

It's been like that on ISIS for a long time, and I had confirmed to me recently that she was still there. Another ISIS reporting error I believe...

The San Diego Zoo seem to has moved their Clouded Leopards off exhibit and placed Spot-Nosed Guenons in the exhibit. The Guenons really like their new exhibit with its multiple climbing branches and shade from bamboo behind the exhibit, but does anyone know what happened with the Clouded Leopards? I asked my interviewers for the InternQuest program and they did not know.

One cat was sent to Omaha, the other is off exihbit, its been like this for a bit, not sure when this happened exactly, but when i visited recently the keepers seemed confused about my questions as to where they were, one keeper in particular told me she had no idea that there used to be leopards in that area, she then asked a second keeper who gave me the scoop, and also said, qoute "you can still see the snowy leopard, i think, at cat canyon" even in San Diego, believe or not.

No more clouded leopards for the public to see? The exhibit in the Monkey Trails section of the zoo was arguably the best clouded leopard enclosure in North America.

Uggh...spot-nosed guenons on the Asian section leading to Tiger River. It seems it would be better for them to abandon the concept of zoogeography from the start rather than to have it erode away...
