Chester Zoo Animal numbers

Hi all, I'm doing a project on learning to use spreadsheets at work. I'm making a sample one for people to practice on, but I need some numbers for it.
Could any of you post some numbers on how many males, females and unknowns there are of some of the animals at chester? I don't mind which animals, just need some numbers.

Thanks all

ISIS (International Species Information System) has what you're looking for (holding data from Chester as well as other UK zoos):

ISIS :: Home

Find any animal you know to be exhibited at Chester (About animals > Find animals, after that it should be self-explainatory) and it will give you more than enough figures for your spreadsheet.

A quicker way (and probably more up-to-date than ISIS :p) is to look at the 2009 annual report. Just remembered this thread, which has PDF's of holdings, including alot more info :)

Is there a way on ISIS to just select one zoo and it only shows the animal numbers from that zoo?

Not that I'm aware of; not in the public area at least. Possibly professional zoo people with professional ISIS membership can do that though.

You can see species by individual zoos all over Europe on the German site Zootierliste (also in English) actually. Here is your beloved Chester Zoo's inventory for instance:

http://www.zootierliste.de/en/zoosmap.php?showzoo=10001032

I hope the address works. Otherwise go to www.zootierliste.de, click on English and then on Zooindex on the left, after that you find Chester or any other collection that interests you. It doesn't have gender figures though, only a list of the species they have.

We have the list of animals being kept, it is the numbers that we are looking for. The main reason we asked here is because ISIS is very rarely in-date, hence it is never fully accurate, so we thought we'd ask here to see if any regulars had a better idea of up-to-date figures :)

With the exception of very high-profile species (elephants, lions, orangs etc), it's going to be difficult for anyone to give accurate figures more up-to-date than the ISIS ones, as it's difficult to know what is held off-show.

I thought the two Asian Short Clawed Otters in with the Babirusa were male and female. If not I am very concerned about some of the acts I have witnessed between them.

I believe that that pair are indeed male and female.

(but even if not, good luck to 'em I say!)

The list is actually saying 8 females, the second number being females, the first male. I believe they actually hold 1.7.

They hold 1.1 with the babirusa and 0.6 with the orangs, making as pt123 says, 1 male and 7 females. They were recorded at the end of 2009 as 1.1/0.6. I assume that the person who produced the stock list did not add the numbers in each enclosure together, because the male arrival is shown as 1.0/0.0 and the female death as 0/0.1.0 but should read 0.0/0.1, it looks like a printing error.
