Animal Quiz

Question

There are NO snakes in NZ . However , there are 2 species of (venomous ) snakes that are native animals of NZ .
How is this ( apparent ) anomoly explained ?

you gave me a hint zuki-pah (however eels are a kind of fish, not reptile), but i'm guessing there are seasnakes in NZ waters. although i would have thought it was a little cold for them - i know most seasnakes are highly venomous.

Zuki-pah ; You are the first person to correctly guess the answer
I cant find the icons but you deserve the thumbs up .

2 species of Sea snake can be found in the waters of the Upper North Island in summer months ( though not all that common )
As long as they stay in the ocean the Government doesnt do anything , but if one is found washed up on shore , the public is asked to alert the authorities , who "dispose of it" ( read -- kill it )
They are venomous , but have their fangs at the rear of their mouths
(apparently ....I have not had the opportunity to investigate this personally .... )

i've had my fair share of turns at being the quizmaster - zuki, i say it was a team effort and you can ask the question. just remember to use the layout i proposed earlier in the thread (see the examples on previous page).

nigel - if you hit "post reply" rather than use the quick reply method at the bottom of screen you are given the options of adding icons, titles and italics....

awww, tough one zuki!

its those little carnivorous ones......um do you want scientific name? i think its either dunnarts or phascogales neither of which i know the genus name of so i'm just gonna say dunnarts. damn, i have seen them in documentaries. they run around on little tracks in the desert.....

African Elephants

What are all the African elephants that have been in australia?

Hint- there have been 7 !

Say- sex, and where the animal was held, and any story that may go with him or her(no need to add story but if they have one tell it, u will still get correct if u just say sex and institute)

Taronga zoo used to hold a male African elephant some years back, cant remeber its name,

WPZ had two males, David and Congo, also they had 4 females, cuddles, yum yum, cheri, and another that came from the usa with Daivd.

Are we moving on with the Quiz yet?, as i said the 7th African Elephant was held at Taronga zoo many years ago and from what I can remember they said it was a male. As for the group of 4 Elephants imported from the UK David was the only male among them, i saw them only a few months after they arived at the western plains zoo.

OK seeing we are taking about African Elephants, How big was the largest African Elephant ever recorded in terms of size and weight??.

I would say at least 7 tonnes, the biggets elephant ever, an african male, died last yr in canada, he was part of a multi million dallar effort to release him back to the wild.
