Animal Stereotypes That You Hate

I’m told being slapped by a King Penguin is like being whacked with a bit of 2 x 4 timber. And yes, they stab. Humboldt’s just bite.....hard.
I’m aware that penguins can be aggressive if threatened or provoked, but like most animals in the animal kingdom, as long as you don’t harm them, they’ll most likely leave you alone. Although I must add, Adelies are so funny because they are so aggressive.

I worked with a Humboldt’s male who disliked me from first meeting, and would target me at every opportunity.

Penguins have personalities alright, the penguin I mentioned would stab most of everybody it came across including keepers. Yet he still liked people quite a bit and kept trying to get through the pen that seperated us from the larger exhibit. Him and the other King Penguin next to him named Charlemaine have been just outside that pen on all of my visits to their enclosure.

These two are known to happen every once in awhile.
When I was around seven years old. I actually set my homework down on the table outside while I was cleaning up dog poop with my sister. The dogs ended up eating part of my homework, so the next day I just brought in the chewed up half a sheet of paper that was once covered with math problems.

You’ve never been bitten by one, have you....?
I think for my tenth birthday we had a celebration at the Fort Worth Zoo, but while they were doing a presentation with my family in this little classroom, my grandfather attempted to pet an African Penguin, which in turn, bit him

The cultural association between "alpha males" and wolf packs, when actually the dominance is shared by a mated pair.

Any non-lion big cat, particularly tigers, shown as hunting in packs.

Kookaburra sounds as ambience for literally any jungle or exotic forest in film.

Hamsters being portrayed as cute and harmless, which sadly leads to people keeping pet hamsters in groups, which is a big no-no.

All penguins shown as living in Antarctica (even the Happy Feet movies couldn't resist having Magellanic and fairy penguins in a polar habitat).

The perception that birds, reptiles etc. are inherently less smart, evolved or complex than mammals.
Even when I saw Happy Feet Two as a young child, I still thought it was weird because Magellanic penguins live in South America and Fairy penguins live in Australia.
The chinstraps are tolerable, but chinstraps are not as common on the main continent of Antarctica and rarely come into contact with emperors.

I get annoyed when there's a solitary animal, like a tiger, and people go, "Oh, you're mean! You should give it a friend to play with!" Not all animals need a companion all the time.

Yeah, some species will fight or kill each other if kept together. Some times a medical reason also causes the need for an animal to be kept alone. However the animal's habits and needs seem to make no difference to a lot of animal rights activists, who commonly use the "lonesome, neglected animal" tack.

"Snakes unhinge their jaws to swallow their prey"
"All bats drink blood"
"Scorpions bite, spiders sting"
"You should cut, suck and tie off a snakebite wound. And then sleep it off."
"Poisonous snakes and venomous toads"
"Toads = frogs"
"Antelopes = deer, different species of deer = Bambi('s extended family)"
"Every chelonian is a turtle and aquatic"
"Newts = lizards"
"Defensive displays of animals = cute"
"A sheep is a sheep is a sheep. Even if it's a giant argali"
"Why didn't the zoo vets dart the escaped zoo animal instead of shooting it? That's what I, a renowned armchair expert with zero knowledge and experience in animal anesthesia, would have done."

... So common in so many countries...
