Animal Wishlist

there are many animals i want to see but i haven't but the top 10 of them is:

1golden lion tamarin
2 quetzal
3loddigesia mirabilis
4orang utang
5aardwolf
6red panda
7 giant panda
8gerenuk
9emperor tamarin
10 golden crowned sifaka

I'd like to see more types of lemurs. The Toronto Zoo only has ring tailed lemurs, then another little zoo in the area has ring tailed as well as black and white ruffed lemurs. I would specifically love to see a Coquerel's Sifaka and crowned lemurs, but I would honestly be happy to see any other kind. Or any other sort of prosimian, for that matter

I know a lot of different animals, but I don't know #3

Dubi Shapiro is a birder and photographer. Perhaps the animal in question would be the the Marvelous Spatuletail which Mr. Shapiro has captured gloriously in a photograph.

@MrOkapi- Buffalo Zoo also has Maned Wolves
Bronx Zoo has Malayan Tapir
Franklin Park Zoo(Boston) has Baird's Tapir
Queens Zoo has Pudu

@Jusko88- We went to Catoctin Zoo in April and they have Sun Bears but they were not on display.
Dholes-The Wilds and Toronto Zoo had them last year when we went.
I noticed American Badger on your list. That was always on my list until this year. I found the Space Farms Zoo in Sussex,N.J. has them and I believe they are the only ones on the east coast.

@BeardsleyZooFan- I went to a small place in Maine a couple of years ago called DEW Animal Kingdom and I believe he had a Sumatran Tiger.
Black Footed Cat-Cinncinnati Zoo
Eurasian Lynx-Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse has them and it's a little closer than Buffalo.
Swift Fox-Brandywine Zoo in Wilmington,DE has them.

A note about the place you mentioned in Greenwich. Good luck!!! I've been trying to get in there for two years and I have connections that know people there. You have to be a member to visit. I might be visiting next year though. Hopefully you have better luck than me.

Also @MrOkapi-If you ever visit Massachusetts, at Southwick's Zoo we have Capybara,Mara,African Leopard, and Brazilian Tapir off of your list.
 
This thread is an interesting read. I've not visited half as many zoos as a lot of you but I've seen loads of the wishlist species. I didn't realise how lucky I've been.

My major wishlist: polar bears at the highland wildlife park in Scotland, but its a fair old trek for me.

yes you are right . i sow the photografer's name in the photo and i thought that it was the scientific name of the bierd but with a little search i found that its scientific name is loddigesia mirabilis

Thanks for all of these tips! I also didn't realize you had to be a member to get into LEO!:eek: A shame, since they had lots of species that I hadn't seen (Bat-Eared Fox, Dusky Titis, Kinkajou, Brazilian Tapir). I guess I can always go to Southwick's to see those tapirs though, and my zoo might even be acquiring Brazilian Tapirs!
 
I love hornbills, so there are quite a few hornbill species that I'd want to see - particularly those from the genus Aceros, I find them to be some of the most beautiful species.

I'd love to see Palawan hornbills as well. Where can you find them in captivity? They're not too common in zoos, I'd imagine, are they?

I want to see a number of ungulates, mostly gerenuks, African buffalo, sitatunga, Japanese serow, gorals, saiga, Sichuan takins, and moose. I've never seen a moose in captivity or in the wild, and they're one of my favorite animals...

Sichuan Takins can be seen at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Moose are wild in New England, but you have to be lucky to see them, but Roger Williams will also be getting Moose soon.
 
@AnaheimZoo- I think Bronx has at least a couple of different Hornbill species but I can't remember what. Here are some zoos in New England that have them:
Stone Zoo-Great Hornbill
Franklin Park Zoo-Southern Ground Hornbill & White Crested Hornbill
Capron Park Zoo-Silvery Cheeked Hornbill
Roger Williams Zoo-Wrinkled Hornbill
York's Wild Kingdom-Red Billed Hornbill
For ungulates, I only can speak for the zoos I've been to:
Gerenuk-Disney's Animal Kingdom
Sitatunga-Maryland Zoo in Baltimore & Natural Bridge Zoo in Virginia
Sichuan Takin- Cincinnati Zoo & Roger Williams Zoo(like BZF said)
Goral-The Wilds has them but you have to go on the higher priced tour to see them.
Serow-There is a small place in Millbrook,NY called Trevor Zoo that has one.
Moose-Columbus Zoo and the Maine Wildlife Park has them too.

I've been too the Bronx enough times. I'll need more hornbills than that! :D (They have long-tailed, trumpeter, Sulawesi tarictic... that's really all I can think of...)

The gerenuk at DAK - are those exhibited on the safari grounds?
 
The gerenuk are on the Pangani Forest Trail in the same area as the meerkats. The last time I was there the keepers had put browse up in the trees encouraging the gerenuk to stand up to get to it.
 
Are you kidding me?! Had I known that, I would've actually looked for them! I was disappointed that the meerkats weren't out, but all I had to do was look a little longer and I would have probably seen a more exciting species (in my opinion). Thanks so much, but I wish I would have known that sooner . . . Shame on me for not looking at the signage. :o
