Animals/Collections in or around Liverpool?

Hi all, what with the current pandemic and all that's currently going on I've obviously not been to any zoos for a while. Once we're allowed to travel and collections have reopened then I intend to rectify that, but first I'm going on a city break to Liverpool with a stop off at Chester on the way home, obviously!

It's primarily a romantic weekend away (three days, two nights, with the last day at Chester) with a bit of a Beatles focus as I've never been to Liverpool before, but is there any sort of collection within Liverpool itself, is their still an aquarium in the museum? And is Knowsley doable without your own transport? Do they run safari buses, and would it be worth doing it anyway?

As far as I know the World Museum still has its Aquarium as well as a collection of inverts on the floor above. I don't know about Knowsley though, it has been a while since I visited. Enjoy Liverpool though, it is a fantastic city.

By the looks of things, Knowsley's Baboon Bus is not running for a while. Best to keep an eye on their website for updates
Greenacres Animal Park is reasonably near too, but I am not too sure on the public transport aspect though.

I did call the Herpetarium at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and they were happy to potentially show me and my girlfriend round. Let us know what it is like, if you get to go!

The World Museum isn't worth going to just for the 'Aquarium' and 'Bug House' as both areas are rather small and uninteresting (I visited last year). However, the rest of the museum is superb; the 'World Cultures', 'Clore Natural History Centre' and 'Dinosaurs and Natural World' sections being my particular favourites.

You could easily spend 1-2 hours there. Entrance is free and there's a café and toilets on the ground floor. You could also just have it as a back up plan in case the weather ends up being too poor to walk around the city.

Oh don't get me wrong, I 100% agree with you it is extremely fantastic!
