Animals Common in your Hometown

The only times I see raccoons are ones hit by cars. It's really sad to see. I'll see 2 or 3 in a 20 minute drive sometimes. Also I'm very jealous about the otters. Otters, weasels, and skunks always escape me. Ugh, laternflies. I once stepped on 21 lanternflies in about 5 minutes.

A sad sight to see mainly because I think Raccoons are some of the smartest animals in my neighborhood, and I hate to see them destroyed by something as obnoxious or unaware as humankind. But, we should be worrying more about Cozumel raccons rather than the Common raccoon, as they are very plentiful, and Cozumel raccoons are drastically rare.

I agree that Cozumel Island Raccoons need more attention, but I still don't like to see a bunch of dead Common Raccoons because people are being careless.

Neither do I, at all. In the coming years ahead, I'll probably hate people even more than I do now, and that's saying something, since all I can really handle is me in one room. :eek:

-Pigeon (around shopping centers, sometimes brown ones pop up)
-House sparrow (everywhere, arguably the most common bird here)
-Snowy egret (common cause of bird poop on cars)
-American coot (estuaries)
-Doublecrested cormorant (shorelines)
-Least sandpiper (shorelines)
-Honeybee (everywhere there are flowers)
-Yellowjacket (under overhangs and around you)
-Jumping spider (in the grass)
-Painted lady (common butterfly)
-Swallowtail (even more common)
-Earthworm (after rain)
-Land snail (after rain)
-Assorted small brown moths (by night)
-Western fence lizard (seen basking on rocks)

and some sightings of more rare birds I have here (May not be rare but I haven’t seen them a lot)
Turkey (Two hens)
Sandhill Crane (I haven’t seen them, my dad seen them)
Some sort of Quail
 
Ok, some U.K. stuff....
Herring Gulls nest on our roof, Great Spotted Woodpeckers nest in a tree just over our garden wall. Over the years we’ve had Kingfisher, Moorhen, Pheasant and Turtledove in the garden. Little Egrets, Canada Geese, Buzzards and Ravens fly over.

It may not been a quail. I don’t have photos unfortunately. I have a fieldguide for birds so I’m going to check that.
(Edit: I looked and it is a Ruffed Grouse, whoops. :p

I also know I have Raccoons, a Wild House Cat, and Turkey Vultures. But I never see the raccoons though one tipped over a garbage can.

I think that, aside from introduced species (mostly feral pigeons, house sparrows and house geckos), the only animal common where I live is the Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus). However, before COVID-19, I used to see on a daily basis at university hummingbirds, White-winged Dove (Zenaida asiatica), Clay-colored Thrush (Turdus grayi), and sometimes, squirrels: Sciurus aureogaster or Sciurus deppei.
 
I live in Naples, Italy.
There are no interesting mammals here in the city (even boars, which are abundant in Rome, aren't common in Naples).
As for birds, yellow-legged gulls are literaly everywhere (along with pigeons) and italian sparrows and blackbirds are pretty common.
In spring and summer, there are even some lizards (mainly Italian wall).
