Animals in a zoo

Hello,

I am hoping to build my own zoo within the next few years and I was wondering what type of animals you would expect or want to see.

In my opinion there aren't enough Meerkats in zoos these days. You may struggle to acquire them though.

Seconded. I would add Ring-Tailed Lemurs (especially in walk-throughs) and Asian Small-Clawed Otters as other species that the ZooChat community really want to see more of.

In the spirit of "Johnny Morris" upthread a pool with some flamingos by the entrance would be unusual :).

More seriously I suspect what people on here would like to see are things that are hard to acquire .....

I would recommend starting as a petting zoo with some exotics. Maybe have sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, turkeys, llamas, ponies, pigs, alpacas, donkeys, etc. (the standard barnyard animals) and have a few exotics (wallabies or peafowl maybe) and work your way up with different permits and advances and gradually becoming a larger zoo with apes, big cats, elephants, large hoofstock/ungulates, etc.

You could even make a walk-through aviary with 45 species of beautiful birds even the Purple-throated fruitcrow and resplendent quetzal. I would also like to see both species of cock-of-the-rock.

Why not have some species such as lynx or clouded leopard which are fantastic and would also be very popular and over time start to develop into larger species such as apes and large carnivores.

My advice would be to see start small but exotic and eventually build up like Yorkshire wildlife park did.:)

Good luck

Or she could add giant pandas and koala.
If to get more popular get Humboldt and Fairy penguin.

The UK could really do with a zoo that has a state of the art Blue Whale enclosure. You get a Blue Whale Grace and i'll visit your zoo and have a cup of tea in your cafe.

Animals...

You'd need a lot of chips and mushy peas to go with a Blue Whale.

Yes I think the questions first are Where are you going to build your zoo and how much land do you have - then we can talk about species enclosures aims of the project ?
