Planet Zoo Animals That Planet Zoo Needs!

Top 10 animals I’d like to see added to the game:
  • Meerkat
  • Moose
  • Leopard (any subspecies, though Amur would be my top pick)
  • Puma
  • White-handed gibbon or siamang (unfortunately I think a gibbon is pretty unlikely now that the Southeast Asia Animal Pack has come and gone)
  • Black or white rhinoceros
  • Fossa
  • Przewalski’s wild horse
  • Fennec fox
  • I guess aviary birds in general, though they aren’t a huge priority for me it would still be awesome to have them and a major step towards further realism.

Shame there was no place for a gibbon in the SA animal pack. Are the brachiation movements really that hard to implement? Even ZT2 managed to include them like 16 years ago. Probably the prospect of having a gibbon is the sole reason I wouldn't object to a primate-only DLC.

Same!

I've decided to set up the animals and mechanics I wished they included through more-or less plausible DLC packs, the first of which being;
Theming: Abstract/ polygonal
New mechanic: flying animals, aviary habitat, mini-aviaries
New habitat animals:
  1. Scarlet macaw (Ara macao)
  2. Knobbed hornbill (Rhyticeros cassidix)
  3. Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
  4. Andean condor (Vultur gryphus)
  5. Grey-headed flying fox (Pteropus poliocephalus)
  6. Northern bald ibis (Geronticus eremita)
  • Mandarin duck (Aix galericulata)
New exhibit animal:
  • Bali myna (Leucopsar rothschildi)
Stay tuned for more; the next four will be bird-focused geographical expansions.

That's a solid list, and I absolutely approve of having smaller birds (passerines, small parrots, hummingbirds) as exhibits with looped animations.

Considering the trends of their previous DLCs I'd say Frontier will likely choose more typical animal options, like having a Great Indian hornbill or a toucan in the place of the knobbed, or a Rodrigues flying fox instead of Grey-headed.

TBH, both of those were also considered for this, especially the G.I. hornbill which was ALMOST included XD. The rhinoceros hornbill was also a choice, and the other flying foxes I thought of were the Rodrigues and large (P. vampyrus).

New exhibit animal:
  • Bali myna (Leucopsar rothschildi)
To be honest, I did mentally consider the Paradise flying snake (Chrysopelea paradisi) as an option for the place of “exhibit animal”. But I will agree upon the fact that the choice for the Bali myna would definitely move away from the in-game trope of exhibit animals being just reptiles, amphibians and or invertebrates at least once in the game’s lifespan.

I did consider the flying snake, but for a further DLC. In any case, however, I decided to move towards the concept of mini-aviaries (they would be at least twice as large as the current exhibits).

The next 2 DLC packs I designed are;

African Aviary Pack
Theming: Egyptian
New habitat animals:
  1. Marabou stork (Leptoptilos crumenifer)
  2. Grey crowned crane (Balearica regulorum)
  3. Red-crested turaco (Tauraco erythrolophus)
  4. Secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius)
New exhibit animal:
  • Black-cheeked lovebird (Agapornis nigrigenis)

Eurasian Aviary Pack
Theming: Castle
New habitat animals:
  1. Mute swan (Cygnus olor)
  2. Cinereous vulture (Aegypius monachus)
  3. Red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis)
  4. Himalayan monal (Lophophorus impejanus)
New exhibit animal:
  • Javan green magpie (Cissa thalassina)

The last aviary-exclusive DLC packs I forged are the following;
American Aviary Pack
Theming: Mexican
New habitat animals:
  1. Brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis)
  2. Burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia)
  3. Toco toucan (Ramphastos toco)
  4. crested caracara (Caracara plancus)
New exhibit animal:
  • Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna)

Oceanian Aviary Pack
Theming: Hawaiian/Polynesian
New habitat animals:
  1. Sulphur-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita)
  2. Victoria crowned pigeon (Goura victoria)
  3. Lauging kookaburra ( Dacelo novaeguineae)
  4. North Island brown kiwi (Apteryx mantelli)
New exhibit animal:
  • Greater bird-of-paradise (Paradisaea apoda)

Solid choices! I'm of the opinion that the bird of paradise deserves habitat status (though it probably wouldn't do its signature courtship displays). I wonder if we could get maybe a bowerbird or honeyeater, or a small parrot like a cockatiel or kakariki.

Maybe it would work better, but then again I've decided to make most passerines aviary animals.

Following all the bird-centric DLC packs I made, here's another much-requested pack;
The Tree climbers pack
Theming: Urban
New mechanic: Brachiation, arboreal jumps
New habitat animals:
  1. Lar gibbon (Hylobates lar)

  7. Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis)
New exhibit animal:
  • Western pygmy marmoset (Cebuella pygmaea)

What ever happen but the next pack MUST be an aviary pack.
It should include the following species in the following priority (based on public interest and geographical usability):

1 Great White Pelican
2 Griffon Vulture
3 Sulphur Crested Cockatoo
4 Grey Crowned Crane
5 Village Weaver
6 Helmeted Guineafowl
7 Egyptian Goose
8 Toco Toucan
9 Mandarin Duck
10 Great Hornbill
11 Bald Eagle

14 Sacred Ibis
15 Snowy Owl
16 Scarlet Ibis
17 Laughing Kookaburra
18 Green Winged Macaw
19 Bali Mynah
20 Turaco (any species)

The focus here is a little on African species to complete the already dominant geographical section at planetzoo (and because the Continent Africa has the biggest draw potential for Joe Public).
Also good to keep in mind: Eurasian Eagle Owl, Victoria Crowned Pigeon, Anna's Colibri, a Birds of Paradise Species, Fairy Blue Bird and a Pheasant species.

After including the largely requested flying birds and arboreal animals, I believe the next DLC's could be:

Next up, the returners!!
Although I am not so certain if the middle-eastern pack could work out (architecture-wise), with the Africa pack already having a somewhat similar building style. I could, however. Definitely see the other two packs being a bit more logistical, and creative choice. But then again, Frontier always likes to pull a trick card on us when it comes what kind of animals the game would receive.

Next up; two under-represented continents come back for more!
Return to South America pack

  1. Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris)

  5. Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus)

Next up, two very ungulate-heavy packs

The following pack, aside from topping up the ungulate roster, gives more essential zoo animals;
Alpine Pack
Theming: Tibetan
New habitat animals:
  1. Pallas cat (Otocolobus manul)
  2. Markhor (Capra falconeri)
  3. Shensi takin (Budorcas taxicolor bedfordi)

  5. Thick-billed parrot (Rhynchopsitta pachyrhyncha)
New exhibit animal:
  • Golden lion tamarin (Leontopithecus rosalia)

Next up, we'll have some cheaper DLC's with a bigger focus on exhibit animals.

Before I tell you the next three DLC's I'd like to see in the future, another feature I would really like to see be included in Planet Zoo would be static rides, museums and other non-animal related structures to make guests happy; things like a carrousel, a ferris wheel, museum exhibits related to different habitats... That would be a wonderful and quite realistic feature to add to your park.
The following DLC's are more on the smaller side, but would be very much appreciated;

Rodent pack

  • Rock cavy (Kerodon rupestris)
  • Prevost's squirrel (Callosciurus prevostii)
  • Long-eared jerboa (Euchoreutes naso)

Terrarium pack:
Theming: Outer Space
New habitat animals:
  1. Nile softshell turtle (Trionyx triunguis)

  • Resplendent quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno)
  • Socorro dove (Zenaida graysoni)
  • Gouldian finch (Chloebia gouldiae)
Next up, we'll take another game-changing leap

Alright, so the next pack would be another quantum leap for the game, in terms of mechanics and flexibility. It seems to be the inevitable destiny of any zoo-building game. Oh yes, I'm talking about the...

Marine DLC
Theming: Shipyard
New mechanics: Fully aquatic animals, tank exhibits, aquatic animal shows, underwater tunnel path, water attractions (swimming pool, slide, paddleboats)
New habitat animals:
  1. Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)
  2. Sea otter (Enhydra lutris)
  3. Sand tiger shark (Carcharias taurus)
  4. Giant manta (Mobula birostris)
  5. Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas)
  6. Giant grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus)
  7. Green moray (Gymnothorax funebris)
New exhibit animals:
  • Ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
Next up, two more DLCs to add more to this new horizon in zoo-building.
