Animals who get the short end of the stick

There are plenty of good penguin exhibits out there, but I often see that zoos which otherwise have very high exhibitry standards have surprisingly mediocre penguin exhibits. Cologne, Basel, Copenhagen etc.

I would say most small cat exhibits. There aren't that many zoos with a decent collection of them, and even then their enclosures are rather tiny ( around 50 sqm most of the time, compared to 2000 sqm tiger exhibits and 3000 sqm cheetah exhibits)

I agree and would definitely say the same , small cats are often unfairly secondary in priority to big cats and it is always a real shame to see.

Sadly this is hardly just a zoo thing either as there is a very marked bias in funding , research, and just overall interest in small cat conservation compared to big cats. Frankly it is something that I find deeply irritating and mediocre.
