Animals you'll never see in a zoo

Some species were already mentioned:
-Sumatra Rhino
-Giant Otter
-Zebra Duiker
-Serval
-Komodo Dragon
-Sun Bear
-Tapir (Malayan?)
-Gharial or Tomistoma
-Echidna (species?)
-Water chevrotain
-Chinese Pangolin (1.0 already in Leipzig)
-Clouded Leopard
-Hippopotamus (probably Pygmy)

However, this list is just a plan-and a lot of wishful thinking, if You ask me...Among others, You will be able to go through certain areas of the hall by boat.
 
I would imagine it would be Malayan Tapirs as they are in the Asia zone...

(side note: I never knew the Germans called rhinos, "nose-horns";) )

"Panzernashorn"-and they got that name even with Dürer's inaccurate portrait of it (reminds me of the Monty Python episode...;)).
 
If I read Liepzig's 'Gondwana' plans correctly the entrance and exit exhibits are entitled 'Living Fossils'. This looks interesting and I think it's an appropriate theme to set the stage for the main display.
I immediately thought of horseshoe crabs and tuataras, but there must be others. Any suggestions as to what they might be? Or perhaps I ought to keep on topic for this thread by asking which of the animals that you'll never see in a zoo would you call living fossils?

river dolphins - i don't think we will ever really see river dolphins in a zoo ever again.

this is both good and bad. on the good side i know of not a single zoo that ever houses them in anything other than a totally unsatisfactory glorified fishtank. i don't want that to continue, and it likely anyone attempting to acquire river dolphins (and there is a few) are proposing just this.

on the downside, river dolphins species represent one of those animal groups that, should be housed properly, are more suited to captivity than their ocean-dwelling counterparts AND could benefit greatly from a captive insurance population. particularly the indus and gangetic dolphins.

(they are also considered a "living fossil")
 
the one animal that i dont think is in a zoo that i would like to see is a Long Tailed Dunnart, really really they have a massive tail around 6 times there body length.

Umm... Maybe i could get a collection permit. :)
