Animals You've Seen That Few Zoochatters Have Seen

Yes, I’ve seen Greater Cane Rat. Also Harbour Porpoise; as said, common but much less conspicuous than Dolphins. I also expect fewer Zoochatters will have seen Common Dolphin than Bottlenose.
Only because bottlenose likes to be closer to shore than common. It depends on where but whale watching tours that go further out in area’s known to have common dolphins will almost always see them. It’s not that their rarer it’s just the means of seeing them is more difficult.

Aye-Aye aren’t very rare. They’re at many high-profile & highly-visit zoos across the world.

Doesn't mean they're always seen though. I've been to two zoos with Aye-aye and yet to see them.

Both of these are what I am implying. There are only around 50 in captivity as it is, with about 23 in the US. When they are on display, they are a difficult animal to see for a variety of reasons.

Aye-Aye does not belong on this thread, if for no other reason, that Chester keeps them. Any animal kept at Chester Zoo is automatically disqualified from this thread.

Are you trying to be funny?
Over a quarter of Zoochat members are from the UK (only the USA ranks higher in members-per-country), most UK members will have been to Chester, and I'd wager a large proportion of those are regular visitors to the zoo. By definition, any species kept at Chester will almost certainly not be "rarely seen by Zoochatters".

That means that Chester's aye-ayes are always easily visible, instead hidden inside nest boxes or barely visible in poorly illuminated night houses? (this said from a zoochatter than never visited Chester, so I'm genuinely ignorant about my questions).

Last time I was at Jersey Zoo the single Aye-aye with outside access, would use the outdoor enclosure in the late afternoon. Even the indoor ones under reversed lighting were fairly visible.
Just thought of a few animals I’ve seen that maybe few Zoochatters have seen…..
Negros Bleedingheart Pigeon at the Negros Forest Park breeding centre on its native island.
Ashy Woodpigeon and Dusky Turtledove in private collections here in U.K.
A whole tranche of unusual Philippine species at Avilon Zoo on Luzon. Also American Badger there:)

I was able to see Bengal tigers at Vandalur Zoo back in 2018 and I did a little research and I'm fairly certain that they're purebred. There are no pure Bengals outside of India so they are most likely an animal only few zoochatters have seen.

There are actually a fair number of Zoochatters who have seen pure Bengal, both because of scattered individuals present in other South Asian zoos and (among the older segment of the forum population) those animals which were held in European collections until 1985.
