Knowsley Safari Park Antelope

Is it true that Knowsley hold the largest collection of Lechwe in the UK?

They certainly have a fair number of them, and I am not aware of another zoo/safari park that house them in such numbers. However this are Kafue Flats Lechwe, not even sure if there are any others in the UK, as Chester hold Red Lechwe (from my research there seems to be 3 or four species/sub-species of Lechwe)

EDIT: ISIS List Chester as holding Kafue Flats Lechwe

Chester's lechwe are Kafue Flats Lechwe, although for many years the zoo classed them as Kobus leche leche. There are living three subspecies, plus one extinct (I think).

I have not been to Knowsley for a while. In the guide book that I have there is about 20 oryx in the picture. How many do they hold now?

I think they sent a group of Red Lechwe recently to Borth Animalarium, for some unimaginable reason.

For many year Chester's Red Lechwe produced occassional white calves. I have seen these in other parks too- indicating they are either from, or descended from Chester's stock. Has Chester managed to breed this gene out of their group now?

Will hopefully find out next year now that the new male has been introduced to the females!
