ZOO Antwerpen Antwerp zoo

Nice, can be seen using the scent glands on his chest to establish territory at the end of the video.

The small Hartman mountain zebra herd of Antwerp has been moved to Placnkendael. Later this year they will return to Antwerp and housed together with the Giraffes.

Some notes from a visit last friday :
- about 1/5 of the zoo not visitable due to construction-work ( new African savanne, new outdoor enclosures apes, new okapi-enclosures ).
- Walk-through enclosures with birds ( hall-way to the reptilian-house, Cape buffalo walk-through enclosure and walk-through next to the Hippo-house ) all closed due to avian flu prevention.
- Flamingos closed-in in a small indoor-enclosure, also due to avian flu prevention.
- First time in my 40 more then 40 years of visiting this zoo ( must be at least 25 - 30 visits over this period of time ) I didn't see the 2 "Congo-specialities" of the zoo ( okapi and Congo peacock ).
But even so - believe it or not - I had a real great day at the zoo :) !

A Balabac kantjil has been born. Only two turaco species were on display last monday (purple crested and violet) and hardly any curassow (coming from 7 resp. 6 species a couple of years ago). Construction of the mixed giraffe - hartman mountain zebra enclosure and the great apes enclosures are well underway.
