Yorkshire Wildlife Park Any updates?

Visited today-wet and cold but enjoyed my visit nontheless
-The map has the South American walkthrough on it with a opening date of Feb 2011
-The Kafu Flats Lechwe were seen mating while the sitatunga appeared to be locked inside one of the barns on the Plains (anyone know why?)
-Black and White Ruffed Lemurs were being awkward customers going straight to the top of the tree at there 'bedtime'
-Only one pride out (Cezars I think) while the hunting dogs were enjoying a leg
-On the wetlands reserve I saw two buzzards and cormorant
Does anyone know what the work in the wood is for-a walkway I guess?
Will upload pictures when I get a chance

Feb 2011! Sooner than I expected. Sorry, no idea why the sitatunga are locked away. I believe they were out yesterday.

Is there a stand-off barrier for the Addax enclosure as there wasn't when the guanaco were in there?

It says date tbc underneath the Feb 2011 date (although I presume it means the exact day.) They have made quick progress on other encolsures though
Don't know about the addax as I didn't really spend long there as they were all sheltering (I think there was.)

Does anyone know if that is the walkthrough being built in the woods?
And (roughly) when tigers arrive?

No it's a play area thing!

Was told the sitatunga like that barn but it was only after I noticed they were actually shut in it.

As far as I know they've only got a male tiger lined up so far, they've started some work on the enclosure but not got very far.Should be able to get it done for spring you'd think!

Bit dissapointed it's a play area but I suppose they have to cater for everyone. I think the tigers will be spring-lion country was built pretty quickly and this is a time when most new exhibits open(Easter time.)

Iv'e uploaded some photos of my visit today into the gallery.

Are the hunting dogs 1.3?

If so are they expected to produce pups?

Yorkshire wildlife park seems to be moving forward at a real pace now. It sure looks like it will be come an amazing park!

I was told that one had had a pup but it didn't survive, last year. I was also told that they were hoping to replace the male. People on here have said they are related and should not breed.

What species of Tiger are they bringing in?Presumeably Bengal anyone know anymore info?

I'd be amazed (but delighted) if it was pure Bengals. Zoo hybrids are a possibility. ;)

Realistically I'd expect it to be either generic animals or Amurs at first; Sumatrans and Malayans are still a bit 'special' and they may be harder to get hold of.

I would expect Siberians or hybrids. Apparently there are few pure bengals in captivity.
However I would love to see Bengals.

I think it's a non-breeding male Siberian! Looking for a platonic relationship with an as yet undiscovered female!

I think that's the ideal situation - a pure animal but non-breeding is fair enough for a new holder. Given they've got 'zoo' lions, a pure big cat taxon would be a good addition.

That seems like fair comment. Indeed, when new zoos enter a breeding programme proper quite frequently they are given lease of surplus or aged individuals (in order to make room in participating zoos with breeding recommendations to set up new breeding pairings.

As to speculations on which individuals: I would adopt a wait-and-see policy.

I think YWP should recieve Colchester Zoo's hybrid Amur Tigeress Anoushka so that YWP would have a non breeding pair and that would i allow Colchester to hold a pure breeding pair?
