Any ZooChatters Written A Book?

Just thought it'd be intereting to find out if any of the members of this website have written a book. With the diverse backgrounds found on here, surely some ZooChatters have.

There are at least a couple. One American ZooChatter is an established author who writes mysteries (usually set in zoos I think) and a British ZooChatter mentioned on one thread that he had written a guide to UK zoos.

I am currently in the midst of a 2 or 3 year self assignment on Zoos Of The Southwest which I hope to self-publish as a book (target date is 2013).

I have written a book on the Totonac indians of the mexican state of veracruz and their relation to the natural enviroment and i have edited 2 books, 1 on the mayan indian communities of the mexican state of chiapas and another is an introduction to general anthropology, which is my field. All are in spanish.

I'll ignore my natural modesty and use this opportunity to publicize my second co-authored book:
The Eponym Dictionary of Reptiles, published by the Johns Hopkins University Press, will be out in September. It gives brief biographical details of those persons who have had extant reptiles named after them (either in the common or scientific name of a species).
Order your copy now!:)

Oh, how you tempt me!

For those wondering, MikeG's first co-authored book was the similarly-themed Eponym Dictionary of Mammals, which is absolutely superb.

Designaka, tim_b and ANyhuis have all also written/co-written zoo books in the past.

While working at the Cincinnati Zoo, I wrote a volume on plant conservation for their series of conservation titles aimed at school children, Green Planet Rescue:Saving The World's Endangered Plants

While they haven't been finished yet, I'm currently writing a novel about a tyrannosaur from birth to death, and maybe one day I'll write a zoo guide.

And whilst im on the jolly old computer, which isnt every day by any means as im ancient, busy and always around the world looking at zoos[just did my 551st-Palma Aquarium in Mallorca],yes i can confirm,as per Maguari[ouch!],that i wrote the" IZES Guide To British Zoos and Aquariums" plus co-writing[most of the text actually]"The Illustrated History Of Bristol Zoo Gardens"...ive also written books on soul music just to prove what a clever-dickie i am.

'Ouch'? That's what I get for providing some free PR?! :D

@Tim B: I attempted to send you a private message and I wasn't able to as apparently your ZooChat mailbox is full. Can you please delete some ingoing and outgoing messages so that you are able to receive correspondence? Here is the first paragraph of that private message, which I will send in its entirety when you are able to receive it:

I just put in an order through the IZES website for 3 books: Anthony Sheridan's "What Zoos Can Do", your own guide to British Zoos & Aquariums and the Bristol Zoo Gardens book. As excited as I am to receive the 3 books (costing $100 Canadian!) I was wondering about the summer 2009 issue of IZES magazine. I understand that the issue in question contains 16 reviews of American zoos and I'd love to have a copy of it. Is there a way that I can order it? Could it be included in my order that I placed today?

I've authored a few scientific papers on ecotoxicological subjects and coauthored a chapter in a book - Ecotoxicological testing of marine and freshwater ecosystems.

Some people may know from the chatroom that I'm currently plotting/writing a fantasy series. I have the story plotted all out, but I have a habbit of starting the actual writing again when I'm so far in :(. Luckily I get a bit further in every time, so hopefully you'll all see it at some point :p

Snowleopard, me and computers eh? I really dont know why my PM box is full-suffice it to say that ive just[5 mins ago] sent my first ever PM!Although the zoo enthusiasts society is not awash with money we are here to help folks who love zoos so i will send you a bumper package[i vaguely remember promising to do this once before and losing your address,so forgive me ,it wont happen again].The last 3 years have been mega-busy for me [i wrote three books for a start]but it seems to be much calmer now.You should see me on here more frequently because of this.

Yes I have just finished a 10,000 word book on elephants: it will be the first of a series called 'The Young Zoologist', aimed at intelligent youngsters thinking of becoming a zoologist as a career. It is more of a textbook than picture book. It will be published on Amazon Kindle later this month, with other titles to follow (and in fact I will be needing some co-authors for some of the animals to be included - anyone interested ?).

I have written a book called 'The Ultimate Guide to crocodilians in Captivity' and coauthored another entitled 'Crocodilians: Care in Captivity' which is due for release at some point.

I've so far written two published books. My first was "Kenkay and Colobus: A Tourist in Ghana" about a trip I made to that West African country in 1998 looking for animals. My second book, published by the Bartlett Society in April this year, was "Animals in the Blood: The Ken Smith Story: A biography of Gerald Durrell's right-hand man." In addition, I've written about 80 articles on zoos or wildlife for various periodicals. I've got numerous other ideas for animal- or zoo-related books. All I need is time.

Attention all frog-fanciers and newt-aficionados! My 3rd co-authored book - The Eponym Dictionary of Amphibians - will be available in April from Pelagic Publishing. It gives brief biographical details of persons honoured in the common and/or scientific names of amphibians.
Order your copy now! Avoid the rush....(I wish:))

Novel about the history of a zoo

My novel The Menagerie: A Zoo Story is available at Amazon (paperback & Kindle versions) and Barnes and Noble (Nook). It has received some good reviews:
Have a love for zoos, ever think about how a zoo becomes a zoo? This is a wonderfully written story of The Dotson Park Zoo, a fictitious place but a story of one of the great American zoos. Flash back in time to a wrestling bear that kills a man in a bar-fight, a cobra in a baby carriage and chimpanzees and elephants living together in the same exhibit. Two dead bodies discovered, both murdered at the zoo. Fascinating history that gives you a new appreciation for zoos and some of the things that happen to make a zoo succeed! (Symbiosis, Journal of the Association of Zoo and Aquarium Docents, Vol. XXIV No. 3, Jul 2012)

Bognor's Zoo

My book was published in January. Called 'Bognor's Zoo', it is about the Hotham Park Pets' Corner; one of the first in the country and its subsequent development into a small seaside zoo. A dramatic escape in the 1980's was the beginning of the end... Profits from the book go to charity and if anyone is interested, it is on special offer at Amazon UK at the moment.
