Hello,
OK so I have looked after penguins for years, and am now in charge of a small colony in a brand new exhibit that just opened in April. They are Gentoo penguins in a refrigerated indoor exhibit. When they went into the exhibit they did not have a proper light cylce, and took about 2 months of begging to get the guys back to fit the lighting system. So up until about a month ago their lighting was all over the place, they are now on a northern polar cycle.
My issue is that due to this stuff up their natural cycle has also been stuffed up. They should be moulting now but as yet there is absolutely no sign of any of them moulting.
Does anybody know what happens if penguins miss a moult? Is there any severe health issues or other repercussions? Like i said I have looked after penguins for many years but have never had them miss a moult so just have no idea what to expect!
