I will be visiting Twycross Zoo for the first time in about 2 weeks and i was just wondering if there is anything in particular i should look out for and if there is anything in particular regulars or previous visitors would recommend about the zoo?

And also is the "Himalaya" the same part of the zoo? Sorry getting a bit confused :p

Thanks!!

Species to look out for at Twycross that aren't seen in any other collections in the UK are,Crowned Guenon and Tufted Deer.

Himalaya is the new entrance, cafe, gallery, shop complex - it also sports a huge vista window onto the snow leopards enclosure - which currently contains 2x 3 month old cubs with their mother :O) very very playful later in the day and if the light is right and the windows clean you can get decent photos.
I loved the Dholes and the Hyena although photos of the latter are tough as theya re currently separated and seem to be hogging the fench next to each other.
It is a primate centre so you get the full hit - Bonobos, Chimps, Gorillas and Orangs - all with young at the moment too.
the Borneo longhouse walkthrough at the back of the elephant walkway is also good fun. Scottish wildcat on the way in to that so keep your eye open.
mmm what else...... plenty of smaller carnivores and prosimmians (although enclosure mesh is not the best for photos in the latter).
Food best in Himalaya if you are buying it - it's not a long walk back and you get a free pass out bracelet - oh yes forgot to mention that entrance to Himalaya is free as you don't enter the zoo proper until you pass through it to the turnstiles.
Have fun!!

Thankyou! Will certainly look out for all those! Twycross has been on my list of zoos to visit for too long!

Any idea when the Scottish Wildcats will be arriving??

Just look at the nearby Twycross thread to be hoest and if its rarities you are after Maguari points you in the right direction..mind you it only seems like yesterday that there were Kloss Gibbon,Red Uakari,Phayres Langur,Baikal Seal,Bolivian Red Howlers and more.

They're already there - and as karoocheetah mentioned, they're in an enclosure near the Borneo longhouse.

Was'nt there a question mark over the purity of the wild cats at Twycross?

Or have they recently acquired new pure lineage Scottish?

Yes, the Phayre's langur and Kloss's gibbon were particular favourites of mine.....and going back a few more years there were the proboscis monkeys and spotted cuscus too.......
