Apparently Zebras Work As Barcodes

As seen in this YouTube video by Atomic Shrimp, barcode scanner apps actually recognize the patterns of zebras as valid barcodes sometimes. This was tested at Marwell Zoo:

OMG that’s hilarious.
I wish Henry Vilas had some zebras to test it on (and I doubt Somali Wild Ass legs are stripy enough), but maybe if I can convince the right people I can get to Milwaukee and try it there. If not, I’ll try it at Phoenix in December.

It would be good if you could use it to identify individuals. Even if they each give you a different barcode, you could sort of work out which zebra gives which barcode.
