Since mid-october 2 new animals call Aqua zoo their new home. From Antwerp a 30 year old female Two-toed sloth and her 6 weeks old young ( sex still unknown ) arrived :

Is this zoo called Aqua Zoo because it uses waterways as barriers along with keeping aquatic species?
The park is called AquaZoo because most of the animals that are kept have a connection with water. Either they live in or on water, or they can't live without water. such as Sea lions, Fur seals, Harbor seals, Otters, Tapirs, Penguins, Polar bears, Nile crocodiles, Pelicans, multiple species of ducks swans and geese, Flamingo's, multiple species of fish, and more. The park also contains al lot of water, so for a couple of primate species they built islands to create, like you said, a water barrier.
The three female South-American fur seals from the closed Living Coasts in the UK moved to AquaZoo. The group in AquaZoo now consists of one male and four Females.
I went to AquaZoo today.
Today was the anual adoptionday of Stichting Wildlide. On this day the people who have adopted an animal can have a "Meet & Feed" with their adopted animal. My adoption animal is South-American fur seal Miguel.
Also, some things i saw today:
- The "Vissengrot" (fish cave) is being renovated and is not accessible.
- Agoutis were born. I counted 3.
- The young pygmy goats are growing well at the petting zoo. There are also several young java sparrows.
- The young beaver can now be seen outside every now and then.
- The 5 fur seals get along well.

Last week male South American tapir Tinus moved to another zoo, later that week a new female tapir arrived. AquaZoo now has a couple tapirs, male Epke and the new female named Quida.

Parc zoologique de Paris has/had a female tapir named Quida, so I guess that’s her
Do you know where tapir Tinus was born?
He was born in AquaZoo. On the 13th of june 2015. Parents are: Epke x Doutzen.
I checked with AquaZoo, Quida is indeed from Parc Zoologique de Paris.
Because the South american tapir is doing very well within the european breeding program (EEP), they will not breed with Epke and Quida for the time being.

Yesterday I went to AquaZoo.
- Both penguïn species (Humboldt and African) have multiple nests. The nests are numbered. Highest number i saw at the Humboldt penguïns was 14, and at the African penguins 20.
- Due to avian flu measures, some birds were in different places. For example, the black swans sat with the sacred ibises, and the Red-crowned cranes with the European eagle owls.

At the end of last year, the zoo took over a North Sea aquarium from a closed Wadden Sea experience center. the aquarium is 2 meters wide, 6 meters long and about one meter high. This week the first fish were added to the aquarium, which were also taken over from the experience center. According to the zoo the first species are: European plaice (Pleuronectes platessa), European flounder (Platichthys flesus)(Although it looks more like a Common sole (Solea solea) to me) and Shorthorn sculpin (Myoxocephalus scorpius). More species will be added later, such as the Small-spotted catshark (Scyliorhinus canicula).

The two confirmed species are the Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) and Majorcan midwife toad (Alytes muletensis). For the frog species they like to show all the stages of a frogs life, from tadpole to fullgrown frog. They also want to add a species of Salamander in that area.

Today the final species arrived for the Wadden sea aquarium. According to the zoo those are:
- Small-spotted catshark (Scyliorhinus canicula)
- European eelpout (Zoarces viviparus)
- Pipefish (It is not mentioned which species of pipefish, but i think it will be the Greater pipefish (Syngnathus acus))
- Fivebeard rockling (Ciliata mustela)
- Spotted ray (Raja montagui)
