Aquarium Help

Update:
  • I added a wave maker which has prevented debris from settling
  • I also added driftwood as a new hiding space
  • I set up my quarantine tank so it cycles for 2 weeks before adding animals (right now, it’s a Home Depot 5-gallon bucket with a hiding space (the grey one in the photo), a filter, an air stone and a miniature heater
  • The root tabs have been doing well, my filter bamboo is growing à new stalk
  • The driftwood is anchored by the pagoda and one of the lava rocks but I heard that it will be soaked by water enough after a couple weeks that it will sink automatically
  • My planned added animals have changed to; American Tetras (Adestrorhamphidae sp.), Armoured Catfish (Otocinclus sp.), some more Guppies (Poecilia reticulata), and River Snails (Viviparidae sp.). Do any snails or clams work? I want to make the “cleanup crew” of the tank a bit larger (other than the planned Otocinclus and snails). Do any of the animals mentioned, don’t need quarantine (I was wondering like the snails)?
  • The hill has already sunk but there is an elevated area on the right
  • I also got new food (freeze dried daphnia and frozen bloodworms) as I haven’t seen the dwarf frogs eating that much (it was cute seeing them try though), even if it put them in a feeding container.

Clams are pretty difficult to keep in a smaller aquarium, and they can instantly kill your whole tank once they die. I think one type of snail is fine for a tank of that size.

The additions look good. I'd personally add a few more plants, but that's just because I love heavily planted tanks

Thanks for the feedback. I’m not likely to add plants for a couple weeks until I get back to the pet store. Do snails have to be quarantined?

UPDATE:
  • I added some new substrate which is good for the plants and better for burrowing
  • I rearranged various parts
  • How can I identify the gender of the frogs? I only know for the guppies that two are males and the other one is undetermined (the blue one)
  • Are any larger shrimps feasible?
  • Is there anything else that I should add?

I just received results from my more extensive water test. How can I fix it?
  • Iron - 0 pm
  • Copper -0 ppm
  • Nitrate - 25 ppm
  • Nitrite - 0 ppm
  • Chlorine - 0 ppm
  • Total Hardness - 50 ppm
  • Total Alkilinity - 0 ppm
  • Carbonate - 0 ppm
  • Freshwater pH - 6.0 (I’ve tried pH riser)

It's better to have pH that stays stable rather than chase a specific number. Those levels are already quite good.

The male frog will have a white patch behind the front legs, plus, males are slimmer than the more rounded females

I just got some new fish and invertebrates at the fish store. I’m going to drip acclimate the snails and shrimps to the main tank and I’m going to drip acclimate the fish for the quarantine tank.
  • 3 Amano Shrimp
  • 3 Cories
  • 3 GloFish Skirt Tetra
  • 4 Mystery Snails

One of my Glofish Skirt Tetra died in quarantine tank. I changed water. What should I do? :(

I got a new quarantine tank (an actual 5-gallon aquarium), a new Glofish Skirt Tetra and some new plants (a floating plants and an Anubias). I also started treatment with the quarantine fish (it helps with diseases, parasites, fungus, and infections ). I’m planning on having some permanent animals in the quarantine tank and was thinking to have; Ember Tetra, Neocaridina Shrimp, Nerite Snails

I mean after I stop quarantining the animals as I don’t plan to quarantine more until late April/early May.

And then you'll need to buy a new tank to quarantine those and so on, be careful of what the hobby calls Multiple Tank Syndrome ;)

Some medications can also be harsh on snails and shrimp, so be aware of that

I'm only doing the medications in the quarantine tank so no more deaths happen

Aquarium Update:
  • I ordered a lot of new stuff such as new substrates, more plants, leaf litter, along with some microfauna (daphnia and scuds)
  • I also ordered some snails (Malaysian Trumpet and Assassin)
  • I introduced the fish to my tank already (it's a bit early but they were already treated with copper in the fish store)
  • My next big order, I'm going to buy blackworms, freshwater copepods and ostracods

How can I tell if my 2 assassin snails died in transport? They aren't moving yet. They were shipped in a bag, wrapped in damp tissues from AquaHuna. They were delayed a day

Any off smells when you pick them up? Leave them in dechlorinated water for a few days and see if they perk up. Might want to add in a few bladder snails as well if they decide to eat.

There are no smells. It's in dechlorinated quarantine tank (levels are better now). They moved slightly but don't move when I touch them
