Exciting News! Our Family Just Got Fin-tastic! We're thrilled to announce the birth of a baby horn shark right here at the @AquariumoftheBay! This historic moment took place on May 18th, 2023, and it's the very first successful birth of a horn shark within our facilities, a testament to the dedication and expertise of the institution's Animal Care team.Horn sharks, with their distinctive appearance and those cool horn-like spikes on their dorsal fins, are a captivating species. They're native to the Pacific coast of North America and play a vital role in marine ecosystems. However, in the wild, they face numerous challenges like habitat loss and fishing pressures. In fact, so little is known about their status that they're listed as Data Deficient on the IUCN Red List. That's why breeding and conservation efforts are crucial. Right now, our little horn shark is just 4 inches long and weighs only 16 grams! It's safely behind the scenes, under close observation as it embarks on its journey of growth and development. Stay tuned for updates on its progress and its upcoming public debut! #ConservationMatters #AquariumLife #babyshark #HornShark #sharks | Aquarium of the Bay | Aquarium of the Bay · Original audio
