Are GM malaria-free mosquitoes a new thing?

New research shows that genetically modified malaria-free mosquitoes could become a reality. Once the technology is established then the question becomes is turning them loose in nature a good idea?

And this is only done for one Asian species, but malaria is more of a problem in Africa and there is a whole range of different mosquito species that transmit malaria (and different types of malaria as well), so it is not really a solution and releasing GM organisms in the wild sounds risky to me as well....
