Are These in Captivity? #2

Are Belted or Ringed Kingfishers anywhere in captivity, whether zoos or rescue centers? And on the note of freshwater birds, are any grebes in American zoos or aquariums?
Oregon coast aquarium has wild belted kingfisher
for the grebes you will need to be more specific on the species

How about Horned Grebe and Red-Necked Grebe for starters?

Montreal Biodome I think still has Red-necked. Afaik only Pied-billed is/has been held otherwise, I'm not certain whether any are currently around.
Biggest problem is they essentially never take non-moving fish, and thus are rather difficult to feed properly and sufficiently. Pied-billed is also a bug-eater, likely contributing to the sporadic success.

Far as grebes go, I just remembered a couple places in Europe & Asia keep the Little Grebe. Seemingly successfully, though I haven't heard of any breeding.

Some zoos do breed it consistently like Zoo Dresden. Many others, like Zoo Prague, get young birds from such good breeders, keept them for few months but never manage to get them breed.

In Switzerland, I know Tierpark Basel breeds Little grebes almost every year, not sure if the species is easier to keep than the other grebes

I would suspect they may be, given they include insects, crayfish, and whatnot in the dirt rather than just fish. Same reason I speculated Pied-billed Grebe seems to do ok. Might dig around and see if I can find some reports and studies on captive grebes.

Black-necked Grebe do reasonably well in captivity too :)

Are they bred in good numbers by private collections?

They are, I believe :) there's a few private places with them to the best of my knowledge. Wouldn't be surprised if Walsrode still have the species too, as people have an unfortunate tendency to remove species from their ZTL page if they are a no-show or not labelled anywhere.

A very bad habit, especially when it comes to Walsrode, with the species changing from on to off-show or vice versa on a monthly basis. Do they publish stocklist sometimes?

Do they publish stocklist sometimes?

They don't - I spent a very enjoyable afternoon some time ago updating the ZTL listings and making them fully accurate after I was provided with a then-current stocklist by someone with ZIMS access, was thanked by the ZTL admins, only to be scolded by the ZTL admins several days later after Walsrode complained to them that an accurate stocklist was visible to the public :p cue all my work being reverted and the listings being actively made inaccurate (including moving species back into current holdings which had left the collection years before).

So I think we can be fairly certain that Walsrode would be loathe to publish a stocklist anytime soon given said reaction :p

When did you do that ? Is it a recent stocklist?

I don't understand why they wouldn't want it to be published/used, I mean, they sould be proud of their collection given how unique and complete it is.
