Ark Wildlife Park Ark Wildlife Park News

I don't know if your photos do the cages justice but they look horrendous.

They look ok in person there’s a few more pictures on the zoos Facebook page. The original enclosures are converted poly tunnels so none of this is ‘highlight’ exhibitry. The animals look and behave happily enough though and this offers more room for them. I wouldn’t say it is ‘horrendous’ myself given the state of the animals is good.

From what I can see there is a cage, probably not 6 foot in height, some rather worn grass and a wooden platform. In fact, the ex-poly tunnel looks to be bigger in height and overall footprint, though the curved nature of it is, perhaps, not ideal.

Both are wider and have more than one platform and a few hose things too. I guess the grass was the grass that was there already.

The Ark has just today received two more Jungle Cats - these are described as urgent rescues 'with a heart breaking background & days away from euthanasia'. They're now settling in to their new home. Oh and for fans of unusual colours in zoo species - one of the new arrivals is black!

The collection was already planning to acquire a black Jungle Cat and a couple of hybrid domestic/Jungle Cats from overseas as part of a seperate project, but they say that they couldn't ignore these two who needed a new home.

For reference, the Ark is already home to Ameya the Jungle Cat who has lived there for several years. Exciting news for fans of this underrated species, but sad that so many have needed sanctuary!

They are from the Cat Survival Trust.

When you said that they were days away from euthanasia, does that mean that any cats remaining at the CST are likely to be euthanised in the coming days?

I genuinely don't know, I'm only going by what was stated on the Ark's Facebook page, which referred to these Jungle Cats as an urgent rescue. It doesn't sound great though, does it? :(

The male jungle cat is named Teddy and the female is named Binks, they could be in quarantine for up to 3/4 months to get them to full health

According to the BBC report, it looks like Big Cat Sanctuary have taken virtually everything at least temporarily

They haven't taken a whole lot, but have been brilliant at caring for the cats whilst new homes were found. They have taken a few individuals, whilst place such as Ark have taken a pair of jungle cats, and Wildside Exotic Rescue have taken at least 6 puma, some bobcat and lynx.
