Ark Wildlife Park Ark Wildlife Park News

@migdog
I combined with Lincs WP first time I went and don't think anything has changed there to encourage my return. I feel like i've been to Baytree in person having watched your video ;) (I actually might have popped in a couple of years ago, as I passed it everyday while working that area for a week or so).

Shame Wolds Wildlife Park isn't open just yet as that's not far and would make it worthwhile.

I popped in for a couple of hours today, with the intention of going somewhere else too, but decided to cut my day out short; I will aim to revisit along with Wolds when that reopens.

The macaques have a decent sized enclosure by lemur lake (photo in gallery) and the jungle cat was a treat to see. The chinchilla have a cosy corner in one of the reptile rooms now and the gennet(s) are in the main room housing the reptiles etc; I think a poorly raccoon or coati was there before. Sadly, the kinkajou died, so I still haven't seen one.
Oh, and they have a "japanese" squirrel where I think were chipmunks before, next to the raccon dogs.

On May 27th, Shadow the fox escaped her enclosure but stayed in the zoo and after some hours returned to her enclosure.

The sanctuary has launched an appeal to build a second raccoon enclosure, they have been asked to take in four more raccoons but only have until the end of October, otherwise they will be put down. More info: ARK Wildlife Park & Exotic Animal Sanctuary

In other news, another serval has arrived and it sounds like there are other new animals coming!

Also you no longer need to pre-book to visit, although if the park gets too busy you may be asked to wait to enter until someone else leaves.

Is this the first UK zoo to stop the booking system for casual visitors/non members I wonder?

Tropiquaria never introduced a compulsory booking system, they only advised booking ahead to guarantee entry. At least that's how I understood it from their website.

Took a trip to the zoo today - it's a fantastic little place with some great staff and animals.

The Arctic Fox pups were on full display! As were the Jungle Cat, Asian Palm Civet, African Civet, Jaguarundi, and many other species. No shows included the genets and a few other bits and bobs.

Construction is taking place through the "lemur lake gate", with a new exhibit for the Arctic Foxes to give them much more space. The zoo also hopes to welcome more rescue species over the next year, but I will leave it to the zoo to announce their arrival.

Worth the trip if you're near by! I will get some photos posted in the gallery over the next few days.

If you visit again sometime; the civets are usually active a bit later as that is when they are fed. They’re such a nice group of animals:)

Very unexpected announcement today that the Ark is now home to a Bobcat! She is a female named Jinx. Today she moved into her new on-show enclousure dubbed 'Bobcat Boulevard' after a period off-show.

This is becoming a must see collection for fans of small cats with the Bobcat joining the established collection including Lynx, Serval, Jungle Cat, Jaguarundi and Savannah Cat.

And small carnivores in general. Three species of Genet, two species of civet, raccoons, racoon dogs, two mongoose species, various red fox morphs, and finally Arctic foxes! :)

On that note, I visited last year and saw the three species, which I understood were European small-spotted genet (Genetta genetta genetta), Haussa genet (G. thierryi), and a large-spotted genet (G. maculata or G. tigrina). Since the latter is not listed on Zootierliste (I swear it was last year, but it's not there now, even under former listings), can anyone confirm the species?

Rusty-spotted Genet. :) I know this because it's the only Vivverid taxa currently in the UK that I haven't seen yet...

Ah, but have you seen both the wonky "Pardine" which are almost certainly Feline, from what I can tell, and the genuine article?

Only the genuine ones at the moment (All Things Wild), but the wonky ones may be ticked off by the end of the year as well. :)
