A sad announcement from Arkive

Yep. You heard me right. Arkive is closing. The beloved animal website... is no more. This is a real punch in the nuts for me, as the website is not only my main source of animals for the Randomized Zoo, but also it is just another example of charitable organizations being squeezed out by the increasingly corporate world who will stop at nothing to get money.

Tragic. It was a very valuable source of information, very well made, and I myself contributed with my images and extended the group to my nature-worried contacts for make it famous. I see absolutely no reason for closing :(

A tragedy indeed. It was one of the best sites for knowledge of plants and animals, and a stable for nature lovers everywhere.

I already commented about this in another thread, but is there something preventing them for using ads? Given the website's popularity, I suppose even 1 cookie per page would postpone it from closing (ZooChat has 3 per page).

A tragic end to a great site and one which I use frequently

This is so unfortunate.!! I have so many great memories from visiting the site. I'll definitely be saving more photos and videos before it permanently closes!

Sad to see it go... it was an excellent site, even if sometimes information on a species I was looking for wasn't written up yet.

I have been going through Arkive and notice how often the American bullfrog and various dragonflies appear in species living in the same range as a mammal species.Has anyone else noticed this?

For people wanting to use this website, there is a way. Simply head to the wayback machine website and then type in the search bar; http://arkive.com then scroll down and click the furthest down date. Then you can scroll the website like it never went.

At least they stated that their content is now being stored securely offline in perpetuity for future generations.
