This afternoon a Gorilla was born at Artis. Mother is Sindy which already had bred at Artis. Her first 2 young both died but the following 2 - both males - are still living in the Artis-group. This is also Sindy's 5th young :).
 
At the European museum awards 2016 Micropia, has been awarded the award for most innovative museum.
 
Is there a date for the opening of the new jaguar enclosure yet? It seems to have been taking quite a long time to build! How lavish an exhibit will it be? And will it feature animals other than Jaguars in supporting exhibits?

There is still no opening date, there have been quite some problems with building it and they now have an unresolved problem with the wires including some trouble with building companies... So there is no progress in the past months.....

The enclosure will only feature 2 jaguar exhibits, which won't be very large either....

Thank you for the update, Lintworm. In some ways it is almost comforting that in the Netherlands, where everything appears to run so smoothly, the same issues that we face in Britain crop up as well!
 
Asian elephant Thong Tai expect a calf in October ! This is the 4th time she is pregnant but one of the 3 calfs was born to early and didn't survive.
 
The Crested screamer which hatched for some time at Artisis now on public view togehter with its parents.
 
2 Tapirs of 2 species born within 4 days at Amsterdam : on Thursday a male Malayan tapir was born followed on Sunday by a male calf of the Lowland tapir :).
