I'm an artist specializing in animals and nature and my chosen subject matter stems from my passion for the animal world. I visit zoos to feed that passion and also as a way to observe and photograph animals. I have, as a result, seen some pretty horrific sights but also some amazing facilities. With wild habitats in dire jeopardy world-wide, I recognize the value of zoos in their role of preserving species and also in educating the public as to the ways in which animals enrich our planet.

My home is in southwestern British Columbia, Canada and I travel regularly to the Caribbean region and the United Kingdom. I've also been able to visit some US zoos as well as those in other parts of Canada.

I look forward to being part of this forum. :)

As a photographer myself, I can assure you that this forum will be very helpful. As you will see, in addition to animal portraits there are lots of photos of overall exhibits. This has helped me a lot in deciding if a zoo is worth visiting for photo opportunities.

Thanks for the welcome! Zoos I have visited include...

Emperor Valley Zoo (Trinidad)
Woodland Park Zoo (Seattle)
Vancouver Aquarium
London Zoo (England)
Denver Zoo
Denver Aquarium
Calgary Zoo
Montreal Biodome
Portland Zoo
Toronto Zoo
Marine Land (Ontario)
Greater Vancouver Zoo
Honolulu Zoo
Kamloops Wildlife Park
A horrible little zoo on the big island of Hawaii (the most appalling place I've ever been; I dearly hope it's since been closed)
Stanley Park Zoo (my childhood zoo in Vancouver that used to be adjacent to the aquarium; it's now closed)
