In 1990 Walsrode imported 6 (5.1) ashy faced owl into their breeding centre on Majorca, in 1995 6 (1.5) chicks were successfully raised, some of these were sent to other European collections paired up with the wild caught birds.
How has this breeding project fared since for these endangered owls, having a look at ISIS shows:
2.1 - Beale
1.0.1 - Newent
3.3 - World owl trust

Are there any more in Europe? or as a result of so few founders is this species on the way out?

I would have thought the opposite. There are at least 6 pairs in bird of prey/ owl centres in UK and others in spain, italy, belgium, holland, germany. Most being with non ISIS members. Also a number are behind closed doors with private individuals.

Some birds have been imported from captive breeding project in Dominican Republic since Walsrodes arrivals.

Numbers are likely to increase still further, though i doubt dirty looking barn owls that would rather hide in a box all day are high on many mainstream zoos wanted lists. More one for the stamp collectors.
