Another birth, and another bull :(

Temi at Munich gave birth last night, to a healthy little bull calf. The sire is Gajendra. Fingers crossed the little fellow does well!

Up next is probably Kina at Amersfoort, she's been looking very uncomfortable the past few days. Fingers crossed all goes well with her and that it will be a little female from her.

This is very good news! Although I'd like it to be a cow. I'm glad the calf is healthy. And what about Panang, why isn't she still pregnant?
I think highly pregnant is also Htoo Yin Aye in Dierenrijk. Her birth is also expected soon.

And I couldn't have been more right! Kina has just given birth about a half hour ago, around 10 am. Sire is Maurice.

I'm watching them over the zoo's live stream, and it is very interesting to observe. Kina is only 11 years old, but has been present for the births of two younger siblings, plus has a 3 year old calf of her own as well, and she is definitely a pro mom at this point. She is calm and collected, attentive to her new calf, has her older son under control, and is actually body blocking old grandma Warwar from getting to close to the new calf (a wise choice, most likely, as warwar seems to be a bit "kick happy"). She's about all you could ask for in a breeding cow! Now fingers crossed this little one will be another cow for the herd.

I think there are now more cows pregnant in Pairi Daiza (theoretically everyone except Mala, Jana and Praya can), but this has not been confirmed anywhere yet.
 
I have seen videos of Nikolai successfully breeding Yindee. I hope its just the EEP saying to not breed her yet, but I worry she might be a flat liner, considering most cows have a calf by 15 at this point.

Also I would not be at all surprised about more PD pregnancies either.

Soraya is very likely to be pregnant. I also think that pregnant are Sayang, Saphira, Khaing Hnin Hnin and maybe also Farina, Aye Chan May, Amithi, Malay or Sitara. So the number of possible pregnant cows is really high.

That would be a lot of pregnant cows. And, in the future, a lot of babies in the herd at once! :)

It’s great to see a Zoo like Pairi Daiza, who have a large number of Asian Elephants and allow their elephants to breed frequently. Do you have a list of how many elephants they currently have? The Elephant Database says they have twenty one, but the website is not always reliable and up to date. :cool:
