Asian Elephants in Europe 2024

Hey everyone! I have been working on making a list of the European asian elephant population.
While I created this mostly for myself, I figured others might appreciate having it as a resource. As such, I would like some help making it as accurate as possible!
Below is the link to the google doc, the settings are set so that anyone can comment suggested edits. I know there is probably quite a bit that might need tweaking as I am an english speaker who has never been to Europe lol.

European Asian Elephant Population

There are a few places highlighted in red that I could not find a location for. Most information came from the following site: Petra Prager – elefanten-fotolexikon.eu

Another move has just occurred that is simultaneously very pleasant and sad. Salvana/Indra has moved from Hamburg to Karlsruhe.

The very pleasant? She is now reunited with her mother Saida, so hopefully the two remember each other and have a wonderful, heartfelt reunion. Given the fact that Saida and the other cow at the facility, Jenny, are well integrated socially at this point, hopefully Indra will settle in well. Jenny is of course a potentially socially problematic elephant herself, but hopefully the preestablished compatibility of Saida and Jenny, plus the support from Saida will result in an easy enough integration.

Now the incredibly sad news? Indra will no longer be breeding, which is honestly completely terrible news in my mind. She’s only 27, and has had two successful pregnancies prior (but no surviving calves). She is the only offspring of wild born Saida, and as I’ve mentioned earlier in this thread, while her sire Hussein does have several surviving offspring, few of them are actively breeding at the moment, and currently only have a collective three surviving grand offspring between them. Indra is overall a very genetically valuable cow, so it’s truly a shame to see her being relegated into a nonbreeding situation, especially since she does actually seem to possess decent maternal instincts, as opposed to certain other breeding cows that have been retired early (glances at the former Leipzig cow Hoa)

Any word on where they will go?
Aung Bo was already officially announced to be leaving by Chester as early as last September, and his location was confirmed as Dublin at the start of the year I believe, which would've been one of my top candidates for him anyway. Given this, I am surprised Anjan will be leaving first (especially as last April he hadn't been running into too many problems with the cows) but I suppose it does make sense as he is now 6 years old and his mother is no longer in the herd (perhaps he could have stuck around a bit longer if Thi was still alive?).

Anjan and Aung Bo will move soon from Chester Zoo. Firstly Anjan and after is Aung Bo.

Maybe a 6yr old bull would potentially be problematic for the new incoming bull especially with having females in season.(just my opinion) guessing Sundara is pregnant and due possibly next year?

It's a bit disapointing that Chester lets go a so young bull. Le Pal welcomed Upali with the 7yo bull Tom without issues. EEP ask to let the bull after 8/10 yo, zoos should make efforts on it.

In fact all young Asian bulls born 2017 are placed or are scheduled for a transfer. Only exception is Edgar at Leipzig. Reality is that zoos are happy to find a place for the young bulls before issues arise. Some bulls separate from their mothers before the age of 8, so it's also about the individual development.

We have to remember that Anjan's mother, 2 sisters, nephew have all died since he's been born. Only living relatives are Sundara(which is his niece if you look at it like that) and her 2 daughters so he may not fit in as much now he's getting older. We don't know that Anjan isn't a boisterous troublemaker and causing all sorts of mischief which if Sundara is pregnant may cause all sorts of issues. I'm sure Chester know what they're doing and for the right reasons

Some more Asian elephant news: Sibu mated with Sanuk last weekend. Looks like Artis may have one or even two 2 baby elephants in 2026!
One sunshine ray don't make a summer's delight! It really is far too early / soon to draw any conclusions from this one mating.

Elephant reproduction is rather complex and requires the bull to hit at the right peak....! (Not to say it does not look promising as the bull has mated more and definitely has some +'s).
