Asian Lions in Europe - Part Two

At least one Asian lion was born at Tiergarten Nürnberg last week. Unfortunately, the cub only lived for a few days.

A few days after its birth, the cub was no longer visible on the camera footage and could no longer be heard. A few days later, the keepers checked the enclosures, but no cub or remains were found. The zoo therefore assumes that one of the parents, presumably Aarany, ate the cub.

Male asian lion Jadoo has been moved from Nuremberg to Zurich Zoo this week.

Does someone maybe know more about Jadoo's mother Aarany? I've been told she was born at Aalborg Zoo in 2016, is this accurate? Who are her parents?

Aarany was indeed born at Aalborg Zoo in 2016. Her parents are Aakash and Yanna. Which makes her the half-sister of the two females in Zurich.

That's what I feared, thank you for the information. I hope this was taken into consideration when Jadoo was chose to join the females at Zurich.

Because his sister Yade developed motorical problems due to a neurological disorder, her brother Yarzar underwent a scan. This revealed that there are also minor abnormalities in his skull, which point to the same disorder. The skull of their recently deceased mother, Lorena, was also examined and she too was found to have such abnormalities. Nevertheless, she lived to an old age without developing any motorical problems. (Instagram Planckendael)
