Asian Lions in Europe - Part Two

There has been some major changes at Planckendael...

Male Chandra (bChester, 1996 Chandani X Jake) has been put to sleep after becoming blind. He and his mate Kolya had two litters with a combined total of 2:5 cubs...

As a result of his death, Two of their 2010 daughters, Laranya and Likitha have been transfered to Le PAL in recent weeks.

This has left Plankendael with the remaining two females and there mother, Kolya from the 2010 litter until now. But things have already started to move on...

This week Plankendael took delivery of Dhari (B16/6/10 Sita X Jetpur) from Mulhouse Zoo as a new male for one of thier remaning sisters (which female they are keeping has yet to be agreed)

Come the Autumn, the remaining sister will be going to Krakow, Poland who are a new holder for this sub-species

To round things up: Plankendael currently have 1:3 but will go down to 1:2 once the other sister has gone to Krakow

Le PAL have 0:2 now following the departure of Kalu, Sari and Oles to Le Parc De Felins and the arrival of Laranya and Likitha

Mulhouse currently have 2:1 (parents and 2010 son) after the rest of the 2010 litter were moved out to Dublin and Planckendael

In the article I can't read that Kolya also has left for Le Palmyre. As far as I understand the article (and I'm a native Dutch speaker) Kolya still lives in Planckendael.

Thanks for correcting that. I'l edit the original post in a minute

I'd better tell you that Le PAL and Le Palmyre are two different collections. Le Palmyre doesn't hold Asian Lions

The Mulhouse sisters (B16/6/10 Sita X Jetpur) who Dublin recieved earlier in the year have got new names. They are now "Suri" meaning Sun and "Sita" after the Hindu mythical goddess of agriculture and fruits (not to be confused with there mother!) :p

Out of all the names they could choose...

The Rotterdam cubs have been named:

Male is "Shanto" meaning calm and his sister is "Rani" meaning queen

Confirmation that Edinburgh's "Royal" (B2000 at Helsink,i Leslie X Vanaraj) was PTS on 19th June due to severe arthritus :(

On a brighter note his replacement has already arrived in Scotland. "Jayendra" (B2010 at Bristol, Shiva X Kamal) is supposed to be settling in well

With the recent changes Edinburgh now have 1:1

In other news - Timbi, the last remaining cub from Mulhouse's 2010 litter has now been relocated to Le PAL.

Le PAL now have 1:2 and Mulhouse, just 1:1 for the time being

Transfer

Asha (B2003Parken, Sarla X Kaya) has today been moved from Ostrava to join the none breeding group at Le Parc Des Felines. She's been transfered after tests revealed ovarian cysts had left her infertile and a planned trio with new female, Kiba failed after Asha refused to accept her

Death

Male, Chandra (Studbook name "Rajah") passed away at Cotswold's during October at the age of 18.
He was born at Chester in there first litter, the birth of which took place in Spring 1994. He briefly lived at Cotswolds for a short time with his brother, Sabu before being relocated from there to Bristol for breeding purposes in 1996. He returned to Burford in 2008 as a companion animal for there lone female following the death of Sabu in 2007. Cotswold's are now left with there original female, Akela following Chandra's passing.....

On a side note: The only surviving individual from Chester's original litter now is female, Jade who is believed* to still be going strong at Moscow...

*She was still listed when ISIS was last online (late 2011/early 2012)

Female, Lady at Besancon has recently passed away from cancer. She was born at Lodz in October 1998 (Bruno X Luei) and had lived at Besancon since 2000.... her death now leaves her partner Tejas on his own

That's sad news... It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Besancon and Tejas.
